Hi, i'm new to this arthritis lark and all you seasoned arthritics will probably think this is a stupid question but here goes anyway
Does the change weather affect your condition? Yesterday was the best i'd had since the onset with the steroid injection obviously helping and the nice weather. I wake this morning to find all the old aches are back (elbow, wrist, fingers, knee and ankles) and its persisting it down with rain. Does this make a difference with you?
Also I am on cocodomol and yesterday I tried laying off it as I was feeling a lot easier. Is it best to take painkillers as needed when the pain comes along or regularly to build a defence up? Don't really want to take more than necessary and cause other problems?
Any advice would be more than welcome
Take care, rick.

Hi Rick
This is a subject that comse up quite often and the answer seems to be that it affects different people in different ways. Some people find the heat makes their joints swell and others {like me}
find that the damp and cold are much worse for the poor joints
As for medication.......I'm no medical expert but have always been told to keep on top of the pain {taking them regularly} not to play catch up with pain.
Welcome to the forum by the way

Hi Hileena, Thanks for the welcome to the forum, although to be honest I didn't really want to be here
Thank you to for the advice, every little is welcome. The doc said about keep taking the painkillers but I went to the hospital Friday and couldn't remember what the Rheumatologist recommended, I was rather bombarded with info on my first visit!
I'll take a look at the poll, i'm sure it'll make interesting reading.
thanks again Hileena, take care.0 -
Hi and welcome. Nobody wants to be here but at least you are talking to people who understand what you are going through.
I'm like Hileena the heat is lovely but my joints seem to know its going to rain before the weatherman.
As for your meds don't play catch up. Its really not a good idea to wait until the pain strikes to take them.I'm not happy taking them but rather that than be in so much pain.
You take care and keep talking to us.....believe me it really does help.

Morning,The weather affects a lot of us whether it is the cold ,damp or air pressure, when its hot and humid is worst for me though it depends to some extent how active my ra is.I have always been told its better to take painkillers regularly than to wait till hit by the pain and yes you have to be careful you dont over do it.Mig0

Hi Rick
I tend to take painkillers when I am in pain. When I had my back surgery for instance I never missed a single tablet and took the anti-inflammatories in between to keep 'ahead' of the pain as the nurses advised.
With this malarkey though I tend to take them a lot more when I need them. I do find though that I tend to need to take anti-inflams (ibuprofen/diclofenac - in my case arcoxia) for many days to help, not just as a one off.
I hope your pain is easier today - remember you are not yet on any disease modifying drugs (DMARDS) yet so you are more likely to need pain relief. Just be careful not to accidentally take too many - remember co-cos have paracetamol in them. Hope I am not sounding bossy  , but would have you to accidentally overdose  .
Love

i only take co cods when need them but always have them with me as you never know when it going to get bad and yesterday and today it hell it the change in air pressure from what we can work out you will work out what best for you but co cods are addictive so take paracetamol if you get headache when you stop them while your body adjusts (i am not a doc just what i have to do) if only on for day or so no problem good luck valval0

As you’ll see from the poll I set up (Here’s one I prepared earlier ) we’re a very varied bunch. I think most of us dislike damp weather. Personally (I have RA & OA) it can be as cold as it likes as long as it’s the icy kind not the wet kind. I wilt in heat and my joints ache though I’m much better in Californian heat so I strongly suspect humidity is a factor. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thanks Valval and Stickywicket,
All info is valuable so thanks for your input, I guess for the time being its take it day by day and grin and bear it a bit until I can get a bit of understanding to what helps and what hinders me.
Onwards and upwards, Rick x0
