Hip?

Hiya,

Not been on for a while-not feeling too great. Eventually got my rheumy appointment through for the 22nd June so not long now.

It's help I'm looking for with regards hip pain. About 2wks ago, as I stepped into the bath, I got a terrible pain in my right side of my groin-a short stabbing pain. Since then I've been getting a dull ache around the area. This morning I've woken with terrible aching across the whole of my groin at the front and around the back of my right hip area, inside the buttock!

This sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks,

Magenta x

Groin pain is associated with a dodgy hip, magenta. I used to get it before mine was replaced. I'm not sure what you can do other than pain relief and resting it as much as possible. I'm sorry, this will be hard for you during school holidays, won't it?

    Hi hun

Sorry to hear your hip in bothering you. Mine is playing me up but on the outside of my hip...think its related to walking funny because my knees bother me. Its been waking me up recently when I lay on it which is annoying!

I find warm baths help and putting an ice pack on...I know it sounds strange but cold helps bring down any inflammation.

Rest as much as poss which isnt easy espec when you have to walk on it

Sorry not much help just wanted you to know your not alone.

Here too! I agree its very hard to define where the pain is coming from. Sometimes mine is more centred on my back. The wet wet weather isn't helping is it? Hang on in there not long to go till the 22nd.
Did you notice the poor old Queen yesterday? I notice her walk has now changed, she never sat down did she? I wonder if she would have trouble getting up - plus a white coat and those red seats?
Enjoy your bank hols everyone. Mx

I too suffered chronic hip pain for 18 months and still do.
I was under a pain team who gave me 1 steroid injection in 18 months and now I have suffered Psoratic Arthritis for the last 2 months.
This has spread to most of my joints and now use sticks to walk when needed (most of the time)
It may be a link from hip pain to arthritis or a link in not having correct or enough treatment may cause arthritis from the constant inflamation that your body is under.
Ask to be refered to a pain clinic or rheumo if it continues to get it checked out and look out for any reddening - psorasis on your joints.
My hip pain I believe has come from an strain injury which may be the onset of all of this.
Hip pain can also be nothing and go away however dont want you to end up like me

    Hiya,

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

Now both my hips are causing me alot of pain as are most of my joints! I've got a pain clinic appt in the pipe-line and rheumy on the 22nd, hopefully one of them will be able to help me. I'm going for xrays on my knees tomorrow. I'm having real problems with them and I feel they're now turning in to 'meet' each other and I wonder if that's causing the hip pain.

I suppose I'll soon find out,

    Thanks,

At a guess, I'd say it's at least a contributing factor, magenta. I do hope they can get to grips with everything in the next few weeks. Use the intervening time well. Keep a pain diary and take photos of any particularly inflamed bits. And let's know how you get on with the rheumatologist.

I am the same as you Magenta. Hip/pelvis/groin/knees and feet now lol. My first rheumy appointment was good hun, he saw inflammation on xrays and sent me for an mri with follow up. At follow up a different rheumy and thats where it went down hill and imminent discharge :o but.....I haven't lay down and taken it I got back to my gp and threw a strop, how come they saw things on xray and then it magically disappears :? and my gp agreed thank goodness and I am now waiting to go to a different hospital for a second opinion with a new rheumy so keep fighting hun, we know our bodies better than anyone and we know when there is something wrong. I know its difficult to keep going over the same stuff all the time but we need to get the proper care and sometimes you have to be pushy  . I know mine is getting worse week by week so I won't give in and neither should you hun.
Write things down hun, where, when, why you get the pain and what triggers it, what helps it. Also take photos of and swelling you get cos you can guarantee when you go for your rheumy appointment it will have gone down and if they don't see it they dont tend to believe it and also make a list of any questions you may have.
Good luck with rheumy appointment hun, I'll be in your pocket with me pills and wheat bags at the ready cos not too good myself at the mo and if you need them after I'll take a good supply to keep us going.

If at all possible take someone with you to the appointment. It's harder for them to just 'send you off' if there's two people there, especially - and I hate to have to say it - if one's a man. Also there's someone else to remember what was said and to prompt you to ask the questions you might have forgotten. And, don't forget, we'll all be there too.

    Hiya Sticky and Dee,

Thanks for your words of support. I don't have anyone available to go with me to the appointment  Never mind though, I've been fighting my own corner for over 20yrs and I'll keep fighting until someone believes me.

I've had my first positive RF (in Feb) and now all my symptoms and pains are very much like RA. I'm going for xrays on my knees tomorrow and I'll have the results by the time I go to my rheumy so hopefully something will show up-terrible that you wish your bones to have eroded for drs to see why you're in so much pain! The ones I see only want to be able to see a +ve RF. Here's hoping.
I take pics and write loads down but I always forget to show them.

I'll wear my coat with big pockets! The more the merrier

Hi Magenta. Remind me nearer the time and me and Ra will gladly tag along for pocket duties hun.
My left hip has been a reet bugger recently. Think it could be deffered pain from the lumbar osteo.
Well mention it at the next rheumy appointment in a couple of months.
Best of luck, hope it eases soon[/ :D b]

    Hiya,

Appointment was awful. Came out in tears-again. I can't win. I've been told for years that maybe they could do something for me if I had a +RF result. Now I have one, it's not high enough!!!
I'm a bit down about it all, I'll speak again later, if at all. I'm beginning to think I'm maybe making more out of my pains than I should be.

    Bye for now,

I'm so sorry, magenta. I know this happens to people but it's no consolation when it happens to you. I hope someone will come along soon with more experience of this than me (I was diagnosed immediately). Please don't go away. You have arthritis of some kind surely?
