Today at work a woman asked ,"what you done to your leg". I explained I'd had TKR that had went wrong. She said ,"well look,I had 1 2 years ago, my knee is fine, see, lifting her leg up. Did you do your excersises properly ,you probably didn't ...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, why do people assume things and there was I trying to justify myself and serve customers at same time .The other one is ,you'll soon be better and running about again

I had a similarly annoying moment on the journey here on the coach.
As I got off at one of the services, an older lady (late fifties maybe) who looked and walked like she was fit as a fiddle asked what I'd done.
There is was, wrists strapped up, knees strapped and ballooned up.. I was obviously in a lot of pain.
Arthritis I said..
"oooh, I know how you feel" as she walked away, obviously pain free :x
I was sooooooo tempted to say something, but I remembered what a chilled out dude I am and let it slide..
I was angry for a while, not like me, but in my defence, I was in agony, tired and groggy...Me-Tony

Some people /shakes head
I was yelled at last week as I pottered around the supermarket in a scooter:
"Why don't you just get up and use your legs?"
 if only I had thought of that....0 -
One of my 'pet peeves', this.
I've been subjected to all sorts of silly remarks during my time with arthritis, usually to the effect that it's 'just a few aches and pains, nothing serious!' I suppose it's less frightening for people to assume things than acknowledge that this is a serious illness.
And breathe…!
Best wishes,
PhoebePsA (psoriatic arthritis) and other things since 1990. Happy to help when I can :-)0 -

OMG this is my pet hate, but then I take a step back and think what I was like before Arthur, I wasn't nasty or anything like that but I honestly thought Arthur was just aches and pain when the weather was wet.. my goodness I know all about it now, most people are not being nasty just ignorant of what is going on.
Saying that I do feel like clobbering some of um...
I do hope they sought that knee very soon...I can only imagine how awful it is when something goes wrong with the op xxxLove

This is my biggest pet hate about having RA.
One day we parked in a disabled space and I always get looks from people (((because I am quite young and obviously shouldn't have anything wrong with me)!!! Anyway I got out of the car and popped my blue badge on the dashboard (my husband was driving).
A woman who got out of the car next to me said, "your partner doesn't look disabled" to which I replied "I'm the one who's disabled actually" and she just gave me a looked and walked off.
However, she was also parking in a disabled space and looked fine (was younger than me) and didn't put a blue badge up on the car.
So in my revenge I reported her to the store and they came and asked her to move her car! ha ha ha!0 -
Good on you .
My dad has a blue badge and someone scratched his car all down the hind quarter .This makes me so mad as it is then up to him to get the repairs done .Fortunately my brother could get these repairs done for him cheaper .I hate these type of people .
Now my self i just tell peops if its a good day and i'm absolutely Knackered or a bad day hobbling around .Stupid Twits0 -
this is a funny thread....people are indeed odd when they knowingly make comments. ive been reported for being drunk cos i sway a bit...that was years ago. ive had the police at my car outside a supermarket who asked to check my blue badge as sold "old" person reported me.
when i have made a joke to family / friends etc about not being able to wipe my own **** they havent believed me.
in the supermarket whilst fumbling to get money out of my purse, the guy, who had a big hunchback so obviously disabled, said it might be easier if i took my gloves off. they were compression gloves. i took them off and that shut him right up when he say 2 banged wrists and fingers purple like bananas.
i swear a lot these days...mainly in my head.
however, i do feel that we are in the frontline for education about this disease & as you all realise, the public are quite clueless. so at least there is something positive we can do when we get all these dumb comments0 -
Its amazing the amount of people that look at you when you park in disabled bays, like you said because we're not old they assume, until I get out gingerley with my stick. Yesterday though we were parked in one, had just got into the car when a man parked behind us,got out his car and walked round the front of ours and was checking to see if we had a badge.... just because we got a jag we are not allowed to be disabled0
