Knee question

Hello,
As some of you may know, I've been having problems with my knees. Pain, stiffness and then them both giving way. Nearly fell a couple of times. GP ordered xrays and I got them done on Wednesday and I'll phone up next week for the results.
Anyway, lately I've felt my knees have got worse. The other night, as I stood up, my knee caps felt strained when I stood up straight. When I looked in the mirror, my knees now look like they have turned in the way-like knock knee'd  Is that sounding similar to anyone?
Thanks,
Magenta x

Dear Magenta,
Yes, I am afraid that does sound similar to how one of my legs went, I could not believe it when I saw a photo of me standing! This was not long before my first TKR. I am sorry to hear that your knees are giving you aggro, you have my sympathies, as I have been through that. I hope you do not have to wait too long for the xray results.
You look after yourself,
Love

Hello Elna,
As ever, lovely to hear from you! I hope you are well?
My knees do seem to have got bad lately although they have bothered me for some time. I'm fearing the damage has been done and I'm really desperate to know the results of my xrays. I'm hoping there is something that can be done cos I can't keep going with the pain. They're making every day a misery. My kids have noticed too how much slower I am these days which I find upsetting.
Thanks,
Eileen x0 -
Dear Eileen,
I apologise, I could not remember your ""real" name. I am ok thank you, putting one foot infront of the other although sometimes rather wonkily these days and remembering to breathe!
"My knees do seem to have got bad lately although they have bothered me for some time." This sentence in your posting sounds familiar. For me one knee was worse than the other and then after a while, the other knee overtook it with the pain and discomfort. I so hope something can be done for you too. Sounds like you have reached the end of your tether with them, like I did. I hung on as long as I could but when it starts to really affect your life and those around you, it is not good.
Do let us know how you go on,
Love

All too familiar, my surgeon is happy that my knee us turning in. He tells me that will give me xtra time. But the extra pressure on my hip and other knee is getting pretty vad. Had 2 hours sleep last night due to the pain!0

Hi magenta,
Sounds very familiar to me. My right knee has blown up huge and I can't straighten it which makes getting up/standing not very easy and I can only stand for 5 minutes max. Also the cartilage at the back is so tight as is the calf muscle, its so tight it feels like it'll shatter anytime.
This has put a lot of pressure on my other leg which now has an ankle twice the size, and thats very painful too  So walking a few feet feels like climbing Everest!
You have my sympathies, take care, Rick xx0 -
Hi Moonheid
I take it you are no nearer to being offered a TKR? Your surgeon may be the best as you have said in a previous posting, but there may be others that will operate. How long does your surgeon wish you to wait? I remember you are in your thirties. Wouldn't you prefer to have quality of life now than later, who knows what will happen? As for sleeping, have you tried amitriptyline?

Hiya,
Moonheid, why would your surgeon be happy that your knee was turning in? That seems really odd, especially as you're in so much pain. I hope he decides to do something to help you.
Rick, what you describe is similar to what happens to me. I've had pain in my ankles for over a year and now my hips are hurting too. I'm sure it's because of my knees. My muscles are very tight also, I try and exercise to help try and loosen tham up but that just makes my knees worse.
My legs are horrible to look at now, no shorts for me this summer

Aw Bless, you Eileen, if it is any consolation, I have not worn shorts for a good few years, would not even wear them in the garden now! Would not want to frighten the neighbours.
I agree with you, cannot understand how knees turning in is good. At least my legs are straight now since the ops.
Got the family over for lunch today, am so happy. It was hubby's birthday yesterday so the celebrations carry on today. Best go now, as have to vacuum and do some preparations before they all arrive.

hi magenta
knees are my big problem too so i really feel for you.
i bent down and my knee went pop and its been bad for over 6 months now. reducing the swelling and doing the painful physio are your best options otherwise you may be left forever with a bend knee or have to have op. my one knee impacted on my other knee both ankles and hips so keeping it straight as much as possible is the way to go.
try lying on bed or flat on floor and pressing the back of your knee to touch the bed/floor. hold or gently massage the swollen bit at the front before/during/after you do this to try to minimise pain.
ive been offered kenalog (steroid) injections but advised that even though less swelling will equate to less pain, the damage is still there and physio is my only hope.
it IS very painful doing the leg flat thing but its better than being stuck with a bend leg unable to walk and with the prospect of surgery.
hope this is some help to you0 -
Hi Magenta, blasted knees, who'd have 'em? Mine have been troublesome for years and yes, my knees turn in but that is due to my flat feet. When I use my best insoles my knee caps face the front - which feels uncomfortable but is a better position for them, my ankles and my hips as things are once more in alignment. Do you have flat feet? Many of us on here do, it seems to go hand-in-hand with arthritis. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
