Is it just me or does everyone else either - know someone waiting for a TKR, know someone who has had a TKR, or has had a TKR themselves?

Since I was listed two weeks ago it seems so for me.

I had a hair cut yesterday and the heirdresser's dad is on the same list as me and the next man in the queue has had one.

I went to order a motability car for my daughter this morning, the salesman showed me the scar from his TKR.

I had my own car repaired last week and the garage owner showed me the scar from his TKR.

My eldest daughter, partner's grandad had a TKR 5 weeks ago.

Isn't it just so funny :lol::lol:

    TKRs are obviously catching!

I must admit I was the first person I knew to have one around here but that was in 2000 but it's more common nowadays. I'm surrounded by people who have had them done and everyone knows someone who's had a joint replacement.

Wait till you're flashing your scar!

    Hi8
I think this applies to a lot of things.
When my dad was diagnosed with cancer {years ago} every second person i spoke to had it or had had it.
My dIL was diagnosed with sarcoidosis {auto immune disease} I'd never even heard of it before but now I've met and spoken to people with it.
Do you think its just because we are suddenly more aware of that particular thing?

We are living in an ageing population, OA is the most common ailment (around twelve million or so in the UK, that's what it said in the paper recently) so no, it's not that surprising. Hileena has a valid point though - when we become aware of something it does seem to crop up everywhere. DD

As others have said, it's probably a combination - one does become more aware of these things when they become a personal issue but also TKRs are now a very common op. When I had my first one in '81 even docs were queueing up to have a look. Now several of our friends have caught up with me.

possibly because it is of more interest to you now Steve and you want to gain more information.EG - double glazing if you were getting new windows you start looking at other peoples they suddenly become more interesting then you start talking about windows to other people. Then again more ops are getting done with people living longer.Good Luck for your future op.

    Hi
A TKR is a total knee replacement
A THR is a total hip replacement
I think we had a post fairly recently where the abbreviations were listed.
It should be made a sticky in my opinion

I'll try and find it for you

Well everyone I'll soon be moving from someone who is to have one - to someone who has had one :)

I got a call from the hospital yesterday and they want me in on 26th this month.

That's very quick as it was only less than two weeks ago that I saw the consultant. :D

Flashing the scar sounds like a good showy thing to do lindalegs:P

frogmorton I hope I don't catch that pregnancy thing you mention
