My appt today

Had my ENT appt today, it was like a whirlwind. He asked me what my symptoms were and checked my ears. he said I have early onset menieres disease and a build up of fluid somewhere. He said they would be able to get it under control but no driving. Then he said I need an mri scan and then he would see me again. In the meantime take these tabs, I looked at the prescription and i already take them. So he prescribed a mild diuretic and sent me on my way. I think I was in for 5 mins max!!!

Now I am puzzled, he never asked about my health or other meds ( I came in using my walker, which isn't what most 40year olds do!!!). So although I knew menieres was a strong possibility as it was suggested 6 years ago. I wonder whether I can trust his judgement. He said all my symptoms including the doisorientation when driving were down to the menieres and he can halt the progress, which I have never heard of? Still, yet another mri to get through and see what he says then.

Anyone else have menieres? Or take Bendoflumethiazide?

Sorry Suzy not had meniere's - just that 'directional vertigo' :?

He can halt it? that would be good. You Ok with MRIs? Charley my eldets had one at 15 on her head (for hemiplegic migraine).

A water tablet too?? Have you got high BP I wonder?

Hope it is ok with all your other meds?

    Love

Both my parents have it, one a lot worse than the other.
Dad's is very much under control with medication and he rarly gets a flare up, my mum is fine most of the time but can have days were she has to stay in bed as any movement makes her feel really sick and dizzy.
She's had to learn what the right level of fluids to drink is for her as too much or too little can set things off, not sure if this is a common issue or something more perculiar to her.
    Both still drive though.

    Keep remembering more things.
Too much salt or caffeine whether in tea, coffee, coke also affects her.

    Hi
That doesnt sound a very satisfactory appointment.
He's bound to write to your GP {are you copied into the letters?} if not I would ring up later on and ask the GP has she heard from him and when he/she does maybe they can explain it to you more clearly.
I'm sorry ....no help whatsoever....He doesnt sound as if he knows what he's doing if he was giving you tablets you were already on????

    Hi Suzy
Sorry Im not going to be much help, but I would have thought he would have asked about your health and any meds you are on.
I do wish you well with the treatment whatever it may be, it does sound horrible.
    You take care xxxx
    Love

Oh dear, another case of specialist tunnel vision. He's an ENT bloke, end of story. I am on bendro which I take to support the Ramopril for my high BP (which is no longer high, hurrah). It's a water tablet I think, so keep up with the fluids (tea, water, juice but not too much coffee as that is a diuretic). I don't know what to advise, I've heard of Menieres but know little about it. From what you said you were aware that this was a possibility, so has this diagnosis kinda helped to relieve some uncertainty? Take care. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hello Suzy

Doesn't sound as if that was a very good appt for you and I'm so sorry there is yet more for you to cope with and more waiting for scans etc. It is so frustrating isn't it when each specialist is only interested in their own speciality, with no regard for the potential impact on other health issues. I understand why you feel you can't trust his judgement given the way the appt went but I really do hope that he is able to find something to help you (other than what you are already taking  ).

    Thinking of you Suzy.

Love, hugs and purrs for Izzy xxx

Thanks Tilly, DD, Heather, Barbara & Hileena,

Its the not being able to drive that is getting me down, the ENT advised no driving till its under control. Its already been a couple of months and it is amazing how fed up you get when you are housebound. As I can barely walk due to back and arthritis, it is very limiting.

Still, at least I know I am not complaining about nothing and he reckons he can help the condition.

The only funny part is that my hubby is fairly deaf and my best friend is deaf in one ear, so with me losing my hearing (albeit slowly) could get interesting!!!!!!

I have been on serc(betahistamine) for 7 years now, and already avoid all migraine triggers because they can set off attacks. I also find the sun sets off attacks which is why it could be linked to my lupus.
