I have recently got hip arthritis to add to my others.Does it make the pain any easier wearing a skirt instead of trousers.I wondered if it puts less pressure.I know its not a cure.

Oh I am so sorry - I dread my hips joining the party. I honestly don't think what you wear will make any difference, I prefer skirts as I find them easier to deal with than trousers but each to her own. Sensible knickers (not too tight either, perhaps a size bigger) are probably a good idea as they will help to keep the joint warm and that may help. Do you have osteo, devonann? I am ashamed to say I cannot remember. DD

    Hi devonann
I was going to say welcome to the forum , but I think I have seen your name before, I have Arthur in my hips and back...now the little begger has spread to my hands and neck.
I was never a trouser person, but for some reason since Arthur I wear them all the time, I think it was something that started in winter and I have carried it on, like DD says skirts are much easier to get on and off, so I would go for skirts in summer , I do hope you are doing okish it seems quite a while since you was on here x

I haven't worn a skirt in years, either before or after the THRs. I never found trousers affected my hips but I am absolutely rubbish at holding skirts up while pulling knickers down - or up. Whatever rocks your boat, devonann.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I tend to wear really loose clothes most of the time. I wear my jeans if we are going out, but as soon as we get home the 'uniform' comes back on. I can't see what you wear would affect you painwise?
For me its more a state of mind? I don't wear elastic waistbands though - way too easy to kid myself I wouldn't be getting bigger.
We had a thread recently about clothing, it may still be there. Natural fabrics are nice (for me) but again its horses for courses?

I stick to skirts in the winter too thanks to a petticoat (usually a waist one, one size bigger) socks and boots. One of the joys of wearing a skirt (especially a longer one) is that underwear is not really that necessary, although it does make life a little more comfy. If Marilyn could get away with it, well, so can we. DD

    Hi
I've got OA in hips....among other things
I cant remember when I last wore a skirt. I always wear trousers.
The main reason is that I cant wear heels so I feel very frumpy in a skirt and flatties
