Hi All,
First of all I'd like to say how humbled I am when reading the posts of all who are in bad pain every day. I've got some pain and feel awful some days, but the good ones outnumber the bad ones. I dont know how you all cope. I,m on mtx tabs, 25gr a week, and at the moment I have 2 or 3 glasses of wine on a friday or saturday. What would be the effect of having 2 or 3 glasses a day on holiday? Does strong sunlight have any effect on this medication. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Methotrexate can cause photo-sensitivity, well it does for me. Long sleeves, a scarf and swirling skirts/trousers are now the order of a summer's day for me as meth rash is not pleasant. Use a high-level sunscreen too, and keep indoors for the hours either side of noon. I take it you are going somewhere where sunshine is guaranteed?

As for the wine, well that is very much up to you and your liver. Do you know how yours reacts when you do have a drink? When I was on injected meth (done by the hospital) I was given the luxury of a week or two's break as I was not near the hospital - now that was a bonus! Now I do my own so I have to take it with me. Me and my liver are very well aquainted however, so I know my limits - can't always follow 'em though! Have a lovely time, enjoy yourself, I am pleased that the meth is helping you, that is a positive and you enjoy every single moment of the better times, OK? I wish you well. DD

Thanks for your replies. Yes I've been worried about photo sensitivity as I had it many years ago when I went abroad whilst on anti fungal tablets for chinese feet rot :| ! My holiday was ruined with extreme skin problems, only I did not know the tablets were causing it and continued to take them all the holiday. We are going to Croatia this year, my hubby is a biker and we always holiday abroad on the bike. This year I am cheating a bit by flying out to Munich and meeting him there. We will then travel down to Croatia together on the bike. This will be the first time since I got this bl...dy RA, so wish me luck! As for the drink, 2 or 3 glasses at the weekend does not seem to bother me much, bt maybe I should not tempt fate by drinking every day.

    Hi

I am on methotrexate too and have been for a very long time, but these last three years I have been unable to sit in direct sunlight , as I now seem to burn very easily. I now tend to sit in the shade.

I hope you have a lovely time on holiday :D

What helped me with the meth rash was calamine lotion so it may be worth purchasing a small bottle just in case. All it takes is forgetting the lotion or staying out longer than one should for the dreaded rash to appear. I wish you the very best and I am sure you will have a blast! DD
