Weight Loss - :-(

Hi all
I had to lose some weight on order to be considered for TKR and duly have done so, losing 3stone plus.
The thing id like to say is that everyone from specialist, GP, family, friends, anyone says to me "you must feel so much better for it"...I short answer is NO. My knee is till buggered and therefore have no extra energy to walk, etc the way people think I should...Also I have suffered terribly from intertrigo, had it last in february, it went in mid march and is now back, been here for 2 weeks...Have tried all sorts for this, followed all doctors instructions to the letter and still red, hot and sore....I have loose skin on tummy, thighs and breasts so wonder if this is a contributor to the intertrigo but I dont know...
The only thing i got told which hasnt got any worse is my knee degeneration but i still feel terrible pain, have fallen over 4 times since weight loss, have bursitis of right hip (opposite side to knee) also have new shin pain on knee..
Im quite fed up right now and at this moment in time would rather be fat and in my opinion healthier...Seems to have multiplied ailments since loss..So the next person that asks the question "dont you feel so much better"...AARRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Understand your feelings , Elaine , I lost 5 stone but my RA has carried on as if I was still huge ! When I hear the usual , " gosh , you must feel sooo much better " remarks ; I find it easier to say , " yes , feel good ! " . People who don't suffer it have no conception what it feels like . I need both knees and hips replaced and sorted so , like you , manageable weight or over weight makes no difference to the way it affects me . At least everyone on this wonderful forum is here to support each other . Jillyb0

Hi Elaine
:-( sorry you are feeling so down...............but i do understand..............evryone keeps going on at me to lose weight pre-op, but its just not that easy when you are mostly immobile, although i do try!
the other thing that gets my goat is the people who know damn well what is wrong with you, yet they constantly ask "is the knee any better"? ............ffs...........yes there has been a bloody overnight miracle and i am cured!

HI Jillyb
Yes these stupid stars that say they feel so much better but theyve had personal trainers, own gym, endless amounts of cash.....Think Quirke and French!
Just because you are overweight doesnt always mean you are a walking health hazard.....My problems i had before are still very much there and more so with the damned intertrigo...I really dont feel any better for my loss one bit!

Hi Julia
I know how hard it is and believe me ive worked so hard to lose this this is mostly to do with why im so disgusted with my stupid body right now...This bout of intertrigo started after the hot spell but now we have another one and its my living hell...
People do however have silly misconceptions about how other people are, asking stupid questions if you are getting better is simply insensitive..
Thanks for lovely message..

Hi Elaine
I do hate the thought that people just think overweight people get Arthur...that is rubbish , but that is what is banded around by health officials, of course getting the weight off take strain of the joints, but we do need to build up the muscles around the joints, my first consultant who I originally went to with my knee, said his mother was 8 stones wet through, and she had OA and RA everywhere, bless him for telling me.
You take care Elaine xLove

Hi Barbara
Weight is a factor but the body is a weight bearing machine so its going to take some abuse in its life...Plus when see celebs such as Quirke getting her hip replaced before she lost the weight and saying the surgeon told her at the time it wasnt a big factor and then afterwards basically saying she paid for it makes my blood boil.,....Bad exampples..

I know how you feel Elaine.
I have 4 stone to lose and my parents have put ridiculous amounts of stress and pressure onto me to lose it. They keep saying they want more commitment from me nad that my 'aches and pains' will go if I lose the weight.

Hi Pink
See when people used to do that to me it made me dig my heels in further...I did it when i wanted to and happy with what ive lost, hacked off with body....
Your aches may fade i dont know but the pain wont go away as if you dreamt it ala Dallas, bobby style!
Dont let them grind u down!

Been to docs again and saw nurse practitioner...she said cos have lost wieight bra may not fit as well so that vital...Also to boil bras, and some horrible yellow cream called trimovate plus canesten...Said basically we all have it on our skin and basically manage it...UM IM TRYING TO???
Dont have funds to fork out new bras plus last time got fitted (last year) cos had put on weight they gave me awful matronly ones which would have held floods back!! Wore them for about 4 weeks then couldnt bear it no more, so cumbersome!

hi Elaine,
I really feel for you, it must be disheartening when you feel no better.
I Lost some weight last year after discovering I had gallstones. Everyone said to me its a good thing to lose weight my knees will be better for it. HMPH they are exactly the same, I would even say they are worse as the OA has progressed!
However I do wish I had done it years ago. Maybe the gallstones would not have developed in the first place.
I do have extra confidence in my clothes and feel I look better. I suppose in other ways I am healthier just wish my knees were better for it.How come I'm over the hill and rapidly going down it, when I don't even recall reaching the summit?0 -
Hi Herestinker
Well when ast saw consultant he said my knee damage was no worse off but had been getting worse with extra weight but i still need the new knee!
I have auto immune disaese idiopathic uriticaria and ahgioedema so that lets me down a lot and this thing with skin is so trivial but quite sore too..Can I ask what is HMPH?
