Hi everyone. am going on hols next tues but im a bit worried about the journey. It will be a long haul trip mostly by plane and although i tried to think ahead by getting the doc to give me a steroid injection last week, im still worried about being cooped up in one space for so long and also trying to cope with the fatigue end of things. Anyone got any handy tips i could try before, during, and after the journey?

I find long haul easier than short actually because, on short haul, there's usually only one place to walk to to stretch your legs - the loo. On long haul everyone wanders about, you can do a full circuit up one aisle and down the other and, better still, see what's on offer in the galleys.
I'm pretty Ok with jet lag. I just drink gallons of water and juice (more walks ) and keep off the alcohol. (It does hurt  , especially when it's free, but it pays off.)
How about the airports, 7worlds? Do you need assistance? If so, ask now. There is an awful lot of standing around and queuing and waiting and many people who wouldn't normally use a wheelchair find them very valuable in airports. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hey Sticky. I actually didnt think about the extra room that i would have. I just thought airplane= stuck in one place, so thanks for that Didnt think about standing about, either but i think i should be able to manage without assistance. Never been long haul before, so thanks for the tips. x

I've just done Spain, on the coach lol
It wasn't great but thanks to a nice dose of diazapam I managed.. Did pay though, but there is always a price I find..
Sticky has given some sound advice as per usual, walking around, fluids etc..
Hope you have a fantastic holidayMe-Tony

You don't have any extra leg room. In fact, you have less on most airlines. But more opportunity to go walkabout. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi 7worlds
I haven't been long haul since having arthur, but last year we went to Spain, and I found the assistance brilliant, I was a bit embarrassed at first, but soon got use to the attention... being wheeled about ...fast tracked through customs...and no standing...and best of all sat not far from toilets.
You have a lovely time...and please bring us some sunshine back...xxLove

Our 'frequent flyer' Sticky has given you all the advice you need - she has flown long-haul more times than I've had hot dinners! My sole thought is to ensure you have some form of pain relief in your bag, that could be useful. Have a good trip - I am sure all will be well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi 7worlds

Quick thought. Having had the odd piece of luggage arrive a day or two late, I always take about a week's supply of my meds in hand luggage, including stuff I might never need but will need desperately if it all goes pear-shaped. I put them in a see-through bag and, if you can add a prescription to show they're genuine, so much the better though I've never needed to show one.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Myself & Mr Bubba do alot of traveling mostly by cruise ship but sometimes by plane. When flying I make sure meds are in hand luggage and always pack enough for 3 or 4 extra days incase of problems i.e loosing one when taking them. As for the flight, I'm lucky being a short **** I have loads of leg room my OH is over 6ft so he gets cramped sometimes. As other's have said with a long haul flight it pays to try and exercise your legs walk up and down aisle alittle, may be worth investing in some travel stockings? I like to watch the movie they play on long haul flights and have a sleep, anything to pass the time. I hope you get some good advice from all the suggestions people have given but most of all have a wonderful holiday.0
