Sleep

Oh how I long to go to sleep at night and sleep through until the morning. I really miss that deep sleep rather than waking in the darkness with a hand, knee or any other body part in pain. Is this a thing of the past or do some meds overcome?

At least the sun was shining here in London at 5am!

I'm afraid, on the whole, it's part and parcel though, having said that, I've always been pretty good at sleeping/getting back to sleep. I don't know whether I'm right or wrong in this but I've always felt it was partly because I never slept during the day and tried to keep strong pain relief to a minimum so that, when I do take them they pack a punch.

Sleep is no longer the refuge it once was. Occasionally I do sleep for five or six consecutive hours but then I wake and have to move. :( I can no longer turn over naturally so that also interrupts sleep - if I need to move I have to wake but I can usually drop off again. I'm pretty good at distraction exercises if I can't or I fire up my Kndle. Like Sticky I try not to nap in the day but when the arthritis is active I have to because that is what my body needs. As for waking feeling refreshed, well, all I can say to that is  DD

It is terrible not to get a goods nights sleep... I too used to suffer terribly for about 4 or 5 years grabbing an hour's sleep here and there..

But recently, via my GP and being prescribed Zopiclone & Amitripyline at night I can manage a good (medicated) 8 hours sleep.... I know medication is not the longterm answer, but 'for me' at present I'll accept all the help I can get...

    Thinking of you...

I know how you feel, I long for those nights where you just snuggle into the bed and feel so cumffy those days are gone. If its not the pain its the waterworks or i'm itchy but always something, cant take sleeping tablets because of heart condition but remember the days when i took the odd
Amertriptylene ( Spelling ) not geting you sleep really effects you and that in itself can make you feel really ill.
Take care hope you get a good nights sleep soon

    Hi Saph,

Seems like you've hit a chord with so many of us!!!! How I long for a good nights sleep-these days I rejoice if I've had 2 or 3 hours in a run! Find the coco's help, but try to save them for when joints really hurt rather than just run of the mill discomfort. :? Forgot myself yesterday and spent 20 minutes kneeling on the floor playing with little nephew and neice-it was great fun but really suffered for it last night and was in agony for hours.
Hope you get a decent night tonight!

I've been up and down all this week! It is something we all can relate to and we all have our little ways of helping to get some sleep.

I take ami and save up the codeine for bedtime. Bit whack of meds = better sleep. Probably not the best answer but without sleep I am a bit of a nightmare to live with

    Hi to all,
Thank you for your support. it helps to know that I am not the only one in the middle of the night wide awake. I think that some of it is down to the stress levels, once I move home hopefully the whole thing can settle a bit.

Gosh I am the complete oposite.

I really cannot get comfy when I lay down so do take codeine at bed time. I try and manage without it during the day but if I do I am asleep on the sofa. If I dont take the codeine I am laid awake, wriggling around not getting comfortable and then dont sleep well.

It really knocks me out, I could sleep for England. I wake up with my alarm in the morning but feel like I havent slept at all!

Not sure there is an answer :?
How come I'm over the hill and rapidly going down it, when I don't even recall reaching the summit?
