hi all,
had my appointment with the specialist nurse on thursday, she took me through the details of mtx and gave me my first prescription along with a load of blood bags for the blood tests.
i took my first set of mtx pills tonight. 4 x 2.5mg and she has also prescribed me the folic acid to be taken tomorrow. fingers crossed i dont suffer from any side effects... im going to bed now just in case, then i can hopefully sleep through them if they do rear their ugly heads.
i have to go to the local hospital for the usual blood checks every two weeks for 6 weeks and then return to the hospital to see her and see how im going on it.
ive read through quite a lot of posts on here using the search option and know alot of you are also on mtx and whilst some have side effects, others dont and it works for some but not everyone so im open minded about whether it will work for me. only time will tell and i know it can take up to 3 months to even begin to work so here goes....
gentle hugs to all xx

Good Luck & Good Night Dippy
Hope it works for youRuby0 -
Hi dippy,
I'm not on mtx but my mom is and it has really helped her, sometimes she feels sick but not every week. She finds that a drink of soda water helps with the yukky feeling.
Hope it works and there's no side effects.
Fingers crossed for you

Good luck with the mtx. I've been thinking about it since February but haven't made my mind up yet.Christine0

Good luck with your journey on mtx.mtx gave me a new lease of life for a nearly two years.it did take about 16 weeks for it to start working for me as it was increased slowly up to 8 x 2.5 mg per week.i woke up one morning and it was easier to get out of bed and it carried on working over the months until a hardly took any piankillers. Many people can take it for many years but sadly it has slowly stopped working for me.hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones .it can make a dramatic difference for you.as for side effects I had none for a very long time until I started losing weight.fingers crossed it works well for you.all the best milly0

I wish you well with the meth, dippy, it can be a very effective treatment for some and I sincerely hope you are going to be included in that number. I'm on the injected stuff and have very little trouble with it. Take care. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Dippy,
I remember sitting there looking at meth pills until I eventually swallowed them! I had to change over to self injections. It worked for me for a good while but then had to come off due to side effects. I do know that they work really well for some though. Good luck!

It worked for me too Dippy but did become less effective as time went on.
Good luck and I hope it works for you.

I started on Meth 3 years ago, first on the tablets and now on the injections.
The side effects do vary, but they should pass within a few weeks.
A wee tip for you, don't drink orange juice whilst on Meth if you are feeling sick during the day, try a ginger nut or a mint.
Both helped me a lot.0 -
Hi Dippy
Just picked up your post.
Have been on MTX (5 x 2.5mg weekly followed by 5mg folic acid 24 hrs later).
To date have suffered no side effects having been on MTX for about 10 years.Has given excellent control of my RA.Have bloods done every 4-5 weeks.
Some do suffer side effects, but hopefully you will be one of those who doesn't,keep us posted!

Good luck. Mtx changed my life and gave me some freedom back. I have had to alter doses and change how I took it but once that was sorted it has always made a huge difference to me. having just come off to try and get pregnant I am really missing it and it has made me truely appreciate how good it was. I often got mouth ulcers and nausea. The ulcers were a pain but the nausea I got used to and got rid of when I changed how I took the mtx. There are a few side effects (I never enjoyed drink with mtx) but it was well worth it for the freedom I got - I hope you get that tooHey little fighter, things will get brighter0
