financial help for self employed

this is something i had not even considered but im self employed and my ability to work has been greatly reduced over the last year. im self employed working from home and there are lots of items and adaptations which would make working life much easier but i cant really afford to have them.
however i was speaking to one of my old neighbours last night and told him for the first time about my RA. a huge groan and said he didnt have the disease but it was killing him financially due to all the adaptations and bits of equipment he had been told he had to provide for an emplyee with RA. he employs 5 staff and this woman been with him 8yrs and previously had excellent relationship but said that her demands are financially crippling his business and he prays for the day she just leaves.he said he did get grants towards some items.
he isnt a happy bunny at all but suggested that i could get help with things i needed through grants etc and offered me her direct line no & said ask B*** as she is the expert on getting every penny out of the system but i thought i be best asking on here as i dont think i could be very nice to this woman who i am told does an excellent job but stuffs her face with food all day long and is milking my mate for all his profit.
i do know that if i purchase things used to work i can claim tax exemption etc etc but my income is quite small so just make do with what i have and put up with the awkwardness of working with a disability. i am glad that i can work from home and still make a living but a new leather reclining work seat for instance would make a big difference to the time i can sit working.
does anyone know who might provide financial help towards items i might need? im not really into begging round charities but if there is some free money i might be entitled to claim it could definitely help me work more hours and make more money which inturn would give more back to the system in the tax i pay.

Hi earthspirit
Sorry I cant help, but this is such an interesting thread, and I will be interested to see if anyone comes along with some answers.
My OH is self employed and he does struggle now, partly his age 64 and partly due to Arthur
I do hope someone comes along very soon ..Love
