Dog Walking

I wonder if anyone is able to help with this question. Does anyone know of an organisation that will do dog walking for the disabled? I have contacted "The Light at the End of the World" which advertises this on their website, but have had no response. The Cinnamon Trust only has this service for peopled receiving state pension.
I find that I am unable to provide the exercise that my dog Terry requires, because of my arthritis and fibromyalgia.
I'd be very grateful for any advice/suggestions.
Regards
Trish

I have had to rehome one of my dogs as i am unable to walk him myself and i am now looking to rehome my second dog.
They are part of the family but i know of no-one to walk them for me and it is not fair that they don't get the exercise they need.
Hope you can sort something out..xxTracyxx0 -

I don't know about a dedicated organisation for this but I know that dog-walking is an increasingly common business. Check out your local press adverts or maybe place an ad in your local newsagents. I have no idea about the charges for such a service but I hope they wouldn't be unreasonable. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I agree with DD. I see quite a lot of adverts in shop windows locally where I live of people willing to walk dogs and dog sit while owners are away. I would not think it is that cheap though. I just googled places local to me and it was £10/£12 for one hour, door to door. So not cheap, which I did not think it would be! There were reductions for bulk bookings.
Is there no young person you know that would be willing to do this for you for some extra pocket money?

Hi Trish
Why not call/email "The light at the end of the world" again? They must be much in demand. I wonder how long ago you contacted them. I see they help people in my county as well as a few others.

Hi Trish
I'm in the same boat as you. It's so up setting to be unable to walk your dog. I have ended up calling a dog walker from an ad on the internet. He walks my jack whenever I don't have anyone to walk him. I have two daughters but they are away more and more and I feel so sorry for my dog.
Anyway I found Steve and he charges £8 per half an hour. It isn't cheap but a solution for the time being. They would most likely reduce the cost on a more daily basis.
Hope this helps

why not contact a local secondary school and see if they might be able to help in finding a trustworthy pupil to help? someone aged over 16 who cant get a part time job [Text Deleted] and needs to earn a bit of cash.

My mum uses a local girl who is very sweet, to walk her dog when she cant and charges her £5 she also has a dog walker who comes and collects him in a van to go off for a good run with other dogs 3 times a week I think she pays £10 per walk with that one but he goes for a few hours and gets off for a good run, that way if she cant walk far for his other walks she doesnt feel as bad and he loves it. Im lucky that my OH or my sone will walk my boy if Im unable to walk at all, he has short walks with me ( I cant go on my own my OH goes with) and then longer walks with my son. I find getting out for that little bit of time makes me feel better for the day as somedays I dont get out at all.
Hope you find a solution tht suits you soon

Hi
I havent looked for a long time but there used to be notes in our local pet shop window about things like that.
Someone suggested teenagers {I think} the other thing is what about a young mother.
When my children where young {I didnt have arthritis} I put a note in the pet shop window and I walked dogs for people ....I didnt go out to work when they were little....did all the things that work around them like childminding, lollypop lady etc....I also went to peoples houses to feed their cats if they were on holiday.
If you dont see a local advert can you not put local adverts in yourself. You are more likeley to get someone you know and trust than going on the internoet {unless of course if was a company}
Good Luck

Hi
Have a word with your vet. I'm lucky in the sense my OH walks my 2 little ones if I can't.There is a healthy pensioner who walks a dog for a lady who lives near me.
Its a good suggestion to get a reliable teenager....they are on holiday and once they start to get an extra bit of pocket money will no doubt come after school once they go back.
No matter what you do it will cost. It maybe better to get some-one who just needs a bit extra money.0 -
Hi,
I think the secondary school idea might be a good one. I teach in a secondary school and our kids do the Duke of Edinburgh award. As part of the process they have to do voluntary things. Some go and work in the nursing home, charity shops etc. I bet there would be some that would love the idea of dag walking. Especially if they might want to be a vet one day! Also you could try local kennels - I know that some of my aspiring vets do voluntary stuff at kennels too. Or, again, ask the vets - they have students on work experience too. Maybe one of these ways will get you a free dog walker!0
