TKR day 8 post op

Hi all, still not sleeping properly but feeling much better about myself. 14 days post op now and I think I have a 70 degree bend? DIY measure using the kids school protractor but it looks right.
The pains are less and don't always notice when the painkillers have worn off. Six hours between and not in a hurry for more.
Went to watch my daughter in the school play, they gave me two chairs, one for me the other for the foot. It wasn't comfortable but it was an outing and a walk so must do me some good.
Take care you all and thanks for all the nice remarks.

70 degree bend is very good Steve and heading in the right direction.
Hope your sleeping improves, I slept on my side straight after the op as I can't sleep on my back. My leg felt like a ton weight at first but it did get better with each day.
Glad you're keeping us posted and stick with it you'll get there in the end.

Hi gang
Now 16 days post op.
Physio this morning, I was dreading it and ready for a fight if it hurt. The Physio is a very nice young lady who was only interested in helping our recovery, (six of us in the new knee group). She set us up with a circuit of exercises to do at our own pace and we could stay as long as we wanted or go when we had enough.
She measured my bend at 70 degrees then after some pushing a shoving measured again and got 80 degrees.
I was enjoying it so much that I was disappointed when she told me I had to leave.
What a difference in two different Physios. Looking forward to next Thursday now It is so much better when there is a group - a little banter always helps
Sleeping a bit better. Managing to get on my side more now and have been able to lift my leg since Monday.
Improving a little every day. (Still painful however).
Keep on trucking all0 -
That sounds like good news Steve.
Keep posting cos I am due to have both knees done and scared about the whole thing. Your news is making me feel better.

I couldn't agree more, Steve. The group therapy of shared pain I love the way everyone cheers each other on.
You sound happy with things and that's good. Keep plugging away.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi all, physio this morning and further improvements. 85 degree bend now and less pain.
The circuit involved some step ups on a staircase, no problem there at all.
Still not sleeping properly but managing to sleep on my side now, need the pain relief during the night but not as frequent during the day, still sit with foot raised and use the ice pack but managing at the PC for quite a long time now with feet out front. It is very boring not doing much, looking forward to the Olympics and Paralympics, then footy season.
All in all I'm very pleased with how things are going and so is the Physio.
Today's group included three women who joined for the first time, all at different stages of recovery, some of the men were discharged one only six weeks post op.
Everyone of us either has or has had exactly the same issues with pain, exercises, sleep and everything else.
I'm still not eating as much as I used to - smaller portions and I go to bed hungry. The good side of that is I've lost 13 pounds in a month, (don't know where from exactly but the scales don't lie - do they?).
Take care everyone, especially Marrianne - good luck for your op tomorrow. Just grit your teeth and put up with the pain and remember it is healing pain and does not last forever.0 -

Folara don't be scared. I just finished reading this long thread - not a lot of energy as I just found this forum - and I had both knees done together just over two weeks ago. I assume that's what you're having? People kept telling me how brave I was and it made it more scary! Anyway, when I have time and energy I'll start a new thread about my bilateral TKR. I'd hoped to find one here, but since it doesn't seem to be done that often, I'll post my experiences for the next person. Mind you, I'm already realising that everyone's experiences are different. This forum is very helpful in at least showing me that. I was feeling a bit isolated already; did anyone else feel that after they left hospital? Anyway, bedtime....more tomorrow...0

Hi Helen,
I had bi-lateral TKRs in 2000 when I was 42. Mine were very successful but it's a difficult operation as you haven't a non-operated leg to rely on. I wore my right prosthesis out and had a revision last year but my left knee is still going strong (touch wood).
I shall look forward to reading your experiences.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

Quick hijack alert!
Legs - I didn't know - or, more likely, had forgotten, that your first two were bi-lateral. You must have been quite a pioneer in those daysIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thank you Legs. Any hints and tips gratefully received. I'm off to do that write-up now...0
