hey all,I haven't been on here in a while as things have been crazy waiting for bone fusion surgery in my foot. I had my injections & got very little relief. Saw the surgeon again & was put on the list for surgery & was told 6-8 weeks. I had a call & was given a date. i was soo ready to be pain free even though i know i will be in plaster for about 4 months.
i had pre op & 2 days before surgery my operation was cancelled as they reviewed my scans & notes & decided they wanted a surgeon who was higher up to do it. i can understand why but its so frustrating!! i sort of put up with pain although was taking tramadol i thought id get through a few more weeks of waiting. I even gave up smoking so i have more chance of the surgery working..... go me!!! its been nearly 6 weeks and ive not had a puff.
Anyway i ended up going back to g.p as pain was so intense & now im on morphine. a route i didnt want to take. does anyone have any advice on pain relief? im so fed up & feel a walking zombie! :-( louise xxx

hi louise
sorry to hear of the cancelation but to be honest its better to wait for a surgeon instead of a registrar as feet can be a tricky thing. my triple fusion arthrodesis (mid foot 3 pin fusion) was meant to take 3 hours and i was under for almost 5.
ive knakered my back 3 weeks ago and am on morphine and dehydrocodein which are the strongest 2 to take.
codein during day so i can still work even though a little groggy and morphine 5-10mls a night to help me sleep.
still in a lot of pain but it does help a bit. rest is the next best thing.
meant to be going to spain on sunday for a long weekend but its 50/50 at the moment. have to drive from london to poole to god daughters and then fly from bournmouth. the only thing making me really want to go is its 33c over there and its heat that i need.
good luck and hope pain eases soon.0 -
Hi
thanks for the advice. yeah definately want it done properly. not sure what i did but posted it on here 3 times! :-/
it sounds like you had pretty much the same problems as me? basically pretty much all my bones apart from my toes have fused into one over the 9 years since my accident.....that and the arthritis. even my scans & xrays shocked me this time around.
Im taking tramadol & zapain through the day & then the morphine at night.
it wouldnt be so bad if they didnt make u feel so groggy and out of it.
i hope you get some relief soon too, sounds like you've had a time of it too & now your back isnt helping matters.
Hopefully you'll get to go on your trip & if you do then id like some sun sent back please.
