New Blow For Me

Hi

Been to see a chiropodist this morning as was experiencing pain in little toe's bones after wearing sandal that was irritiating my foot.
I thought this was just that and forked out £40.00 on some more supportive sandals but no still hurt.
So off i go this morning being told "itll be nothing, you'll be fine"...Got told have tailor's bunions one foot worse than other but toe has more or less dislocated itself...Been told to now wear trainers or lace ups for 2 weeks with a gel support to see if it eases pain. Also been told cos i need a new knee and i walk irregular that is adding to the problem....Orthotic insoles may not help as this aggravates medial, lateral pain...Next step then would be steroid injection and if that fails surgery to put pin in toe but it will never go back straight..Also been told may have some arthritis in toes also as very stiff...
Im devasted as been waiting for TKR for 2 years now had to see second opinion and lost 3stone in weight but now with foot pain it will go back on as finding gym is making it sorer too....I cant believe this has hit me right between the eyes and cant, well can believe my rotten luck...
I am teary and totally fed up, feeling so frumpy also with trainers on in summer!

Oh Elaine, that's just poo isn't it? Get some nice white canvas trainers cos they look nice with linen trousers or shorts and you won't feel too frumpy. You could also have a bit of fun and glitz them up a bit if you wanted to. How about getting different coloured laces to go with your outfits?

I'm sure you won't put too much weight on just cos you can't get to the gym so much, so long as you continue to eat healthily and drink plenty of water to flush your system out.

Keep your chin up hunnie and have a big huggle from me and my puppy, Primrose.

I simply cant believe this has happened to me...Ive never been a slave to fashion and mistreated my feet, never, seems my shape of my feet this was always going to happen....
I actually dont like the canvas trainers about and my feet dont cope well just bare, without socks, get all sweaty and horrible....When i go on holiday that will be fun, no sandals in hot weather?
Im sure cutting back on gym will pile weight on, i put it on so easily!

    So fed up, teary....

Trainers or lace-ups for a fortnight may not be ideal but if they help then that is what matters. The damage is now done and a way has to be found to remediate it, obviously things won't be as good as new but if the discomfort can be eased then that is a good thing. Can you adjust your gym work or what you do there to avoid hurting your foot further? You have done so well to lose the weight and I am sure you will be able to keep it off - you must have re-educated yourself by now to eating more healthily and surely you could still use an exercise bike at the gym - that's a good, non-weight bearing and low-impact exercise. I hope you're not too down-hearted Elaine, yes this is a setback but you are strong enough to fight back. DD

Im completely floored by this, seems it all goes back to how i walk, problems with my knee and arthritis....
I do eat more healthily but if dont do as much exercise stands to reason wont stay off...
I cant bear the thought of injection in my foot or surgery....I must have worst bones in my family...Not got much fight today, sorry.

Why can't you bear the idea of surgery? You've been fighting tooth and nail for surgery on the knee (which may or may not work) but you are giving yourself a good head-start with the exercise and weight-loss towards a positive outcome with that. Don't let that slide due to pessimism, keep working at it and you will get there. DD

    Hi Elaine

I've been following your story for ages and I am so in awe of how you have kept going, lost weight and have jumped through every hoop put in front of you. It sounds as though you have had a raw deal with the hospital going back on their first promise and yet you have kept going, regardless. That takes real guts and determination!

I know there are days when fighting on is a mountain too high to face climbing, but you have climbed higher by the sounds of it and I for one have every confidence you will overcome this pain and problem.

I wish you a speedy solution.

    Best wishes

Not too good on the legs or feet myself at the moment and have a dodgy ticker but I will remind you, daily if necessary,:lol: that you have the stamina in you, even if you've lost sight of it right now! Sometimes it is only others who see the real inner strength and can give us a shove when the hill is steep. Friends have done that for me on rare occasions and it has helped.

Your story sounded so like the ever-moving goal posts I have had to cope with too, hence why I've followed your posts. I haven't managed the weight loss though :(

I know there are people worse off than me but i just feel like its too much for me right now, one too many obstacles that ive already clumsily hopped over!
Im annoyed with my body just now and as for losing the weight it isnt the be all and end all everyone says it is....Dont believe the hype.

    Hi Elaine

This sucks.............just another ruddy blow! :-(

Cant you swop the gym for the swimming pool? (it should cost about the same?) That way you wont be shelling out any more money, but you will feel you are doing something to keep the weight off?

I know exactly what you mean about the Trainers though..........I have been wearing Trainer style shoes since last July as nothing else is supportive or comfortable enough!

go see your GP and ask if he can get a letter to your consultant...........push them for that TKR you so desperately need !!

    Bless you xxx

It seems to be one thing after another for you at the moment. You are so hoping the knee op will help you get your life back but do you feel this bunion is going to jeopardise your future plans and mean you will not have the ability to enjoy life as much as you had hoped?

Now I am sure others have had bunion surgery and pins in toes and I'm hoping they will come along to reassure you.

I know you are feeling so down hearted at the moment and don't think there is anything I can say to make you feel any better,

Just have to give you my best wishes and hope the insoles and steroid injection lessen the pain and the forthcoming op appointment on the 9th goes well.

    Aww!!!! Elaine
It seems to be one thing after another for you at the minute. I know how hard you have worked to get the weight off.
Trainers if they help shouldnt be too bad for a short time surely.
As for the weight......the eating habits you've now got will see you through.....
Thing of the people that are immobile or at least partially and cant do much exercise? you're over the hardest hurdle now so keeping it off with healthy eating shouldn't be too hard.

I just dont need this right now, if it had come along in 5years time fair enough would have had knee but right now when im battling my biggest nemesis that is my gammy leg i dont need a bunion and more treatment when no doubt will get told I have done brilliantly to lose the weight (its like its the be all and end all to a lot of people - not me)......I may seem resilient but im not hence why knocks like this floor me...Im hanging on by skin of my teeth all the time...

Just something to hang on to here, Elaine. I’ve probably had 3 of the most successful TKRs on the forum combined with 2 of the worst feet. There's no reason why this should hamper your TKR recovery.

There is no doubt that you are struggling, and I empathise, but please spare a thought for those of us on here who are already chair-bound or reliant upon walking aids. My 'affectionate' nickname amongst those who know me? Lurch. It doesn't tickle my funny bone but it does theirs and when I catch sight of me walking I can see why I've 'earned' that moniker. DD
