Hello everyone. Nice to meet you all. I joined the site a few days ago, and this is my first post. I have arthritis (osteo) in both feet, neck, hands and wrists. At the moment my wrists and feet are really bad. Surgeon wants to operate on my toes. He wants to remove the bits of bone in there, and cut out some more, so that I can move my toes. He said it's very common, but was a bit vague about how long it would take to recover properly, and said it might not totally fix the problem either. Come to think of it, he was a bit vague about lots of things, or maybe I just wasn't listening. has anyone here had this done? How was it? Has it made things better or worse? And also, has anyone had both feet done at the same time? The surgeon hasnt mentioned it, but I'm nervous about surgery, so would rather get it over with. But I would prefer not to have surgery if it's going to make things worse. Sorry, I'm just confused. Thanks for reading this.

Hello Izzie30 and a warm welcome to the forum. Your feet sound very painful but I'm afraid I can't help. I've had knees and hips but still got all the original bits of my feet - albeit now arranged differently  I hope one of our 'foot surgery' members will be along soon to help. Weekends can be a bit quiet on here.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello Barbara and Stickywicket. Thank you for the welcome, and taking time to reply, I forgot about the tennis (is it safe to say that) lol. I found some posts about foot surgery, but maybe wasn't such a good idea for a wimp like me. Hate anything to do with blood and guts and stuff. I wonder if the pain goes away, without surgery. I read about joints fusing themselves. Does that mean pain stops? I've had this for a while, but now struggling to walk, and my hands and wrists are so bad. It does come in fits and starts though. Is that normal?
Lots to think about. But thank you. I was reading about your new wheels Barbara. I hope you get used to them soon.0 -
Thanks Izzie
Its hopefully till I get my hips and back sorted...I live in hopeLove

I think you need to find out all you can in order to make an informed decision and, yes, it might mean reading the odd gory bit  . The good news is, you wouldn’t actually have to watch your own op. Also, if the surgeon is willing to operate, he must feel there’s a good chance of success.
It’s true that bones do fuse themselves in time. My wrists have fused themselves, one ankle has and the other has all but. And, once fused, there is virtually no pain there. However, the process of getting there is long and painful.
If none of our ‘foot op people’ see this thread it might be worth PMing some of them.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Issy,
There isnt alot of info on here about foot surgery but there is a lady called emma who has had toe surgery and is recovering as week speak. She has it a few weeks ago maybe she will see your post.
Im in a similar boat i see my consultant tomorrow regarding surgery, i have been down the road before but had to start again from scratch as the theatres closed in my town. I too have osteo in my big toe joints and i struggle walking and its causing my hips to ache. Im not sure what op they are doing yet as the last surgeon said he wouldnt know till he opend me up as he isnt sure if i have any cartledge left and if i havent it will have to be fused. Im not bothered which is done as long as it gets sorted.
Im very worried about having it done and i have done nursing but its different when its yourself. I have opted for being asleep as the stress is getting to me and yes im a wimp so your not on your own.
Sorry i cant put your mind at ease but i know the recovery depends as everyone is different, type it in google and see what comes up thats what i did. take care for now Julie x0 -
