Is this the way it's going to be ?

Greetings to you all.
Does it naturally follow that if you have osteoarthritis in one part of your body you will inevitably get it somewhere else.
I have it in my hips and in the last three months my neck has been as crunchy as hell. In the last three week my shoulder has become extremely painful.
Am I on a slippery slop here ?

Hi and welcome to the forum...Thats if you are new to us
No it dosn't always go that way, I have it in quite a few joints including my neck, but I have a friend that is in her 80s and she had both hips replaced years ago, and she hasnt got it anywhere else in all that time .
So I suppose we could be unlucky, I would love to know why mine has spread so quickly....there are plenty of exercise you can do for your neck to strengthen the muscle, so you ask to be referred to a physio.Love

Hi, mine seemed to spread really quickly ...it started in my right knee, then both hips, then my shoulders and now, like you, I'm getting it in my neck (and lower back ...but not sure if that is just the pain in my hips causing that.) oh and I have achey fingers too.
Strangely my right knee where it all started rarely gives me much pain these days, it's my hips and shoulders that really suffer and the pain is severe.

dont know mine seems to have gone the same way, but then i managed to damage a lot of joints when i was young, so maybe its just that as it does seem to have affected them first, hands then wrist then ankles ,and so on.accelerated after menopause and im 48, that seems to have had the biggest effect, one of the things about getting older i suppose just dont like it good luck and i hope it slows down its progression well we have a limited amount of joints lol so it must stop at some point i hope0

I can’t really help as my own OA is a result of RA. From reading others’ posts, I’d guess it can but doesn’t always. However, this forum is likely to have more people with more problems as those with just the odd affected joint are likely to be getting on with their lives and not coming here.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Peaceful Warrior
Mine started in my left knee, then progressed to my right knee and is now in my feet , ankle and possibly my back and right femur.
It doesn't always progress like this for everyone.
Take Care

Hi Peacefulwarrior, It's all down to the person and the type of Arther you have. The only person who can answer your question is your consultant. I was told by an old consultant ' make the most of your life now because your going to be in a wheelchair very soon permently!' Nice guy! Well I'm still using a wheelchair part time so there you go! I think what Barbara said about exercising is true so if you feel like exercising give it a try.0

Thank you all for your replies. I'll just have to see how it goes. I do exercise quite a lot when I'm in less pain but it seems the yoga I am doing is exasperating some of my problems.
