I am seeing a gynaecologist tomorrow. I am sure my frequent periods are making my OA worse, I would like to know if other women notice their pain pattern varies with their menstrual cycle.

    Hi Lola,

Yes: I have PsA plus OA and I find my pain is far worse during my period. In my late teens and 20s I experienced a lot of relief through being on the Pill, more so on the combined type but I had to give it up due to migraines. I had Implanon inserted in my upper arm in 2010, but it hasn't had the same effect, worse luck.

I see your gynae appointment was yesterday and I hope you found it useful.

    Best wishes,
    Phoebe
PsA (psoriatic arthritis) and other things since 1990. Happy to help when I can :-)

Hormones definately impact my pain! Other things can too...

I suffered with heavy periods and near constant bleeding and discharge for months. Subsequently, iron levels dropped very low increasing fatigue to the extreme. I was days away from surgery when I read an article about one of my meds.

Was taking Naproxin with cytotec misoprostal for the somach protection. Turns out the cytotec that is used for ulcer prevention is also used as an abortion pill. I stopped the cytotec misoprostal and symptoms cleared in days! It is listed as a side effect, but was never picked up on. Has been life changing for me! If you take this drug, maybe something to consider?
