BuTrans with codeine?

I saw a different doctor to usual this week and he started me on 5mcg BuTrans patches, with a view to upping the dose if I get on ok with them. However he said to avoid taking codeine with it if possible, and if I do need it then only take 15-30mg max instead of my usual 30-60mg.
I've done the last two nights with just the BuTrans, amitriptyline and paracetamol (mo codeine) but kept waking up in pain and as such my mood is pretty low. Not helped by the fact the buyer collected my (his now) motorbike today, as I wasn't riding it due to.back pain.
Has anyone taken.codeine with BuTrans? I plan to see my usual doctor in a few weeks to review it, but am dreading the next few weeks

I'm not a doc and this is purely a guess but presumably the reason you can't take codeine with it is because they act in much the same way so the risks from side-effects would be doubled.
If you're struggling with the patch I think all you can do is go back to the doc and see what he says.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I'm using butrans patches (strength 20) too and currently take them with tramadol. But when I was put on them, I was still on co-codamol 30 and I was told by pain doctor not to take co-codamol at all. I was in so much pain that I barely remember anything from that time apart from the pain. After about 2-3 months I thought I can't take it any more. I asked, first the pharmacist, then the GP, whether I can take my co-cos too, cause I'm in so much pain, and they both said it's fine to take it. So I did.
But because these are very strong drugs, please ask your doctor before doing anything.
Take care and I hope you will feel better soon.0 -
In your shoes I would speak to the pharmacist.
have you tried top up of anything else fist e.g. paracetamol?
My GP DID tell ME that I could and I have on his advice, but you might have another health issue different to me so please don't risk it till you check.
Bu-trans may need upping too?

Hi Harlanmum,
Sorry things are not so good flower.... The mood thing is so common with what ever form of arthritis we have and its not easy to say goodbye to something you like..... I thinking of the motorbike for you.
There are times when you see just bleak.... I have had this bone shift since my teens and one thing I have learned is its not been as bad as I feared it would be. You can fight back and you are so far that you ave a big pat one the back.
Legs is a good one for how you have to deflect the feelings of loss that the bone shift brings. I go into my own world and withdraw sometimes when it gets really rough and I know that's not the way to do it!
If you look at all the things you can do rather than the things you can't it can help and you know what? Your dojg really well in so many ways and borrow some belife in the future for you cus it will be ok however it pans out.
Back to the patches..... I was on them for a week and they made me so sick but they did say I could take codine with them back then.
They changed mine to the oxy's but there are so many types of pain control out there and maybe when you see your own doc he will be able to help you to have less pain at night. backs do that one.... For me the oxy's helped but there are so many types of pain control that hang in there and maybe they will find something better.
Oh for backs..... there are [pregabalin and they can really help if you get on with them and might be worth asking if they could be some help to you.
Hang in there and leaving a (((( )))) Cris xx0
