Two hours of e-learning has set everything off big time. I am back on codeine as I can't take NSAID. Do people take codeine as the norm? 8 paracetamols was doing nothing for weeks. Also, does OA 'flare' ?

Hi Lola,I take a 30mg codeine every six hours, some times i have to take one in the night but not often,if i need a back up i take paracetamol,be careful with the codeine as its easy to get hooked on them i did and it took me a long while to get down to the proper level. As far as the oa and flaring i cannot help as i have ra,some-one is bound to come along to help.Mig0

Hi. I started off with codeine for my OA and tramadol. As for flares, yes, currently I am having a rather bad flare, but I think it is due to lifestyle / medication changes. weather or not it would have happened if those changes didn't happen then who knows ?0

Hi Lola
I have OA..well so they say, but yes mine flares, for two days I havent been to bad , but today absolutely everything hurts, even my elbows...Im afraid like you nothing is touching it at the min, apart from the gabapentin that has eased the nerve pain from my back down my legs.
I do have co codamols but I just cant take the amount Im suppose to.
I take anti inflams and stomach protectors, I did think they weren't working till they took them off me for a while .
I do hope you get something to help, you take care xxLove

Without a doubt we do get flare ups with OA, the worst of mine tends to go round in cycles, feet/ankles/knees then shoulders/wrists/hands with lower back pain and neck and jaw causing pain. The older I get the less time between bouts. Pain occurs without movement although weight bearing and movement has a part to play.
I haven't found any drugs to beat the pain but pills and analgesic cream just takes the edge off the underlying constant aching, sometimes less than others, the shooting pains are like sudden bolts of electricity and nothing stops them, I have heard that its caused by the joint wearing away. The pain is present along my bones as well, so involves areas and joints.
I, to, have had to reduce the strength of pills and take protectors for my stomach, sometimes they actually work!
Time for a smile! The Heathrow baggage handlers lost the Oz sailors sails, did we not send the handlers on hols and put the troops in? Oh dear...... These games are going to be chaos with some entertainment thrown in!0 -
Yep mine flares too. My knees especially when they feel like they are burning up and swollen and nothing touches the pain. The only thing I find is any help is cold compress and rest up till they feel a bit better.

Yers my OA flares occasionally
As for codeine.....O just take one at night 2 if necessary.
Occasionally I might toake one during the day as well but thats it.....I know they can be addictive.
I'm on paracetamol and naproxen and the usual stomach protectors as well
Love
