Does anyone else get this? Ive read it can be related to RA?

    Hi Emma

I'm sorry you are feeling I don't pain in the ribs. When I had pain in my ribs similar to the one yours I went to GP who examined me and said it was ulcers and increased my lansoprazole dose from 15 to 30 mg.

I'm sure those who know will advice you as soon as they see your thread. I would advice you to go see your GP though as they will examine you and give you right answer.

I'm sending you big (((()))) and hope you get better.

    Hi Emsjane,

I used to get exactly what you describe when my RA wasn't under control, since it now is I'm fine.

You're inflammatory OA aren't you? Maybe OA sufferers can get it too and it's not a sign you have RA. You can always check with your GP to see what he/she thinks.

briefly, because it's late, I'd be surprised if it's ulcers. I felt ulcer pain a bit lower down, not exactly ribs and certainlt not affected by breathing. Others have described similar pain due to the arthritis. Or, is it possible you've just pulled a muscle?

    Hi
I have OA and occasionally it happens certain ways i twist or move. The GP says its because I have osteopinia that it happens so easily.
So it seem like there are many different causes so you should go and see your GP.
One way or the other...cracked ribs/bruised ribs/etc are all very sore.
The other thing is dont shallow breath.....that can cause pneumonia
You want to breath shallow because it hurts any other way but force yourself to breath deeply

    Thanks guys!

I have had this for a few months now so im ruling out any sort of pulled muscle and i haven't cracked any ribs, so i am thinking its something to do with my arthritis!

I do have inflammatory OA so im going to speak to the Rheumy in August about it and see what she says.

My arthritis has definitely got worse over this last year. I have put on some weight, so i take some responsibility for that, but when you're in pain, moving about a lot is not enjoyable!!! :(

I feel like my list of places i now have arthur and pain is increasing month by month!!!!!! Very frustrating :/

Hi Emma, I had something similar recently but the rheumy thought it was more likely related to bronchiectasis-a lung problem related to the Ra- whatever it was, anti-inflammatories didn't help, it stayed around about 2 weeks then went. So I send sympathy and hope yours goes soon too.

I get like a cramping pain in my rib/sternum area that really stops me in my tracks and slows me right down. It feels better when sitting and laying down, but getting up and walking is agony. When it is like it my ribs are very tender to the touch. I believe it to be caused by some sort of degeneration in my thoracic spine. I am hoping that the MRI scan shows it up.
It does not hurt when I breathe though, just when I move so yours may be something different.
You should go see your GP and get it checked out.
