Have just finished four of Phillipa Gregory's historical novels. Just love the way she writes. Currently reading Midnight by Josephine Cox. Can recommend Victoria Hislops - The Island, The Return and The Thread. Her next book comes out in September I think and I shall certainly order that one.

I belong to my local U3A Book group and after discussing the book, which usually takes about 10 minutes on a good day, you wouldn't believe the topics we cover during the next two hours. We don't allow men in our group as our conversations would be seriously curtailed. Oooo, we do have a laugh.

    Hi Janet

I used to be a member on an online book forum :)

My Sis is in a reading group too.

Good to hear you love historic novels - I used to read them avidly with my Mum and sister, but latterly I have started reading some murdery ones instead

    Love

I have read Phillipa Gregorys novels and enjoyed them. I love Georgette Heyers novels as well.

Lately like Toni I am reading thrillers/murder mystery.

I've read a couple of her books 'recently' and have enjoyed them. I enjoyed The White Queen.

I've read a lot of Phillippa Gregory's books and IMO the best has to be Virgin Earth. Her later novels do seem a bit 'dark' which puts me off a bit but I admit she does write a good yarn.

Yes, I've read that too Janet and enjoyed it. The other Boleyn Girl was good , I don't know if you've tried that one. I felt I was learning as I read.

Yes I enjoyed the other Boleyn Girl. As she does indeed tell a 'good yarn' I do wonder how much of it is accurate.

My husband, who is a bit of a historical know all, likes to point out the inaccuracies in Phillipa's novels, but I told him I enjoy her books for the good story lines.

Will enjoy reading your recommendations, the book club I set up isn't strict! It's a fun, easy going post where you read what you want and just leave a star rating and a review. Will look forward to reading your reviews and hope you enjoy it.
