I had a physio appointment for my hands yesterday. My knuckles on some of my fingers are bending the wrong way. So I now have ring splints to wear all day. (I also have swan necking on the end joints, which need them, but she said to see how I get on with these first).
They are unobtrusive, and although I know they're there, they are not uncomfortable. They are made from plastic, so are waterproof.
I couldn't have them for all of the fingers that need them because my fingers fold over each other, it would be too awkward.
Anyway, if they stop some of the deformity, that has to be a good thing, and they won't do me any harm, and they don't hurt! Result!!

I haven't heard of these Numpty so thank you for the information. The main thing is that they help and if they feel comfortable to start with then that has to be a good thing. Let us know how you get on with them, please. DD

    Thanks Val.
DD, I hadn't heard of them either, apparently you can buy silver ones, which look like jewellery. Don't think I'll bother, these are flesh coloured plastic, not at all noticeable. My OH didn't notice them. Alright, that's a bad example

Don't want to put a damper on things , but these didn't work for me . My OT made them to fit me and they were fine to wear , but my fingers continued to deform . Hope they are more successful for you , Numpty . Jillyb

Hi Jillyb, how long did you try them for? Which joints did you have them for, and, (if you don't mind me asking) how bad was the deformity when you first used the splints? Sorry, I know that's a lot of questions.
    All the best,

Had swan neck on three fingers so maybe too far gone , now have the fingers on my right hand completely bent downwards touching the inside of the wrist and left hand following suit ! I wore the finger splints for about 6 months , but had to remove them as my hands continued deforming until the splints were cutting into me and the OT thought they were more harm than good . My last three fingers on each hand were and are the worst affected and they were the ones splinted . Hopefully , yours have been caught in time and you'll really feel the benefit . Jillyb

I'd never heard of these either but they definitely sound worth a try. Good luck, Numpty. Keep us informed.

My OT gave me 1 for the middle finger joint on the little finger ...I didnt last 5 mins my finger was screaming for me to take it off.
The plastic was rigid, I dont know if yours are?

    Hi Ruby2,
mine look a bit like a number 8 bent in the middle. One ring goes above the finger knuckle, and the other below. The middle of the 8 goes behind the finger. The plastic is rigid, but I could still bend the knuckles, except mine don't bend anymore. The splint just stops the knuckles from bending in the opposite direction to normal.
I don't think I've explained that very well. It's just like putting the two rings of a number 8 on your finger.
Perhaps I'm just lucky I find mine comfortable.
    All the best,
    Numpty
