Hi everyone
Just been to the reaumy this afternoon. I am on Humira and 15mg of Meth but this is not working. I am in constant pain and my ESR has gone through the roof. I have taken Meth, either as a stand alone or in combo, for years but it has never worked. Anyway, the reaumy has told me I need to take meth at a higher dossage by way of an injection. I am very unhappy and have made my feelings clear. They have made it clear that I must try this with the Humira for a further three months and then they will put me on a fusion of Roactemra each month. I can't have any more steroid injections as I am diabetic and steroids raise my blood sugars rapidly. I am worried I am going to be left in severe pain for several more months, surviving only on Arcoxia and large doses of Tramadol. So sorry for the negative vibes,
Den.

Hello Den, there is not doubt that you are in a tough place and I am so sorry about that.

I am on the combo of injected meth and humira. Mine is a long (and boring) story but I took the tablets for a while, developed a rash and was taken off them, then wasted time trying a number of stand-alone treatments. I began the injected meth in 2008 (I think) then the humira was introduced in July 09. For the past three years I have had wonderful bloods but as for the pain, well, there hasn't been any reduction in that whatosever but I suspect that's due to the severe OA in my knees and ankles, caused by the joint damage of my PsA.

I know it is repetitive to say this but it is so very true: we don't know what may or may not work until we try it. Injected meth can usually be given at a reduced dose (the 'jollop' tends to be stronger as it by-passes the digestive system) . I am aware that my figures are no guide for you but both the ESR and CRP halved in the first fortniight of this combo, then hit single figures where they have stayed ever since. Every now and again I even get the indication that the level of inflammation has been too low to register. As I said I can't feel that as such, thanks to the OA, but I keep trying to take comfort in the fact that the PsA is better controlled. It is, however, cold comfort.

It's tough mate, there's no doubt about that. I can't (and won't) tell you what to do but I will say what is there to lose? There are two horrendous 'what ifs' in our world, viz 'What if I try and it doesn't work? What if I don't and it might?' I wish you well. DD

It's very hard, Den, when they want to try a treatment that you have no faith in but I guess you've no choice. On the plus side, 15 mgs of meth is quite a low dose. I'm on that just as a kind of holding dose as mine's been calm since I first went on it. I was taking 22.5mgs at first. You can have more meth if it's injected and it just might work. I do hope so.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
