Im really getting thoroughly depressed with my legs. I'm virtually housebound at the moment which is like prison for me as I'm an out and out country girl.

My knees are both so sore and swollen. The x-ray I had when I was taken into hospital the other week showed my left knee has completely collapsed onto itself and slid sideways too. They consultant was horrified I was not on a list for a TKR. My right knee, which used to be called the good one, is worse. The pain is hot and burning and stabbing and constant and and and .... Doesn't even stop when I'm in bed so I'm taking Zomorph like its going out of fashion.

I can't seem to get an appointment with my Consultant as he is so busy. I can't stand this pain for much longer and at my wits end what to do. At this rate I am going to need BOTH knees doing at the same time.

Fols x

I'm sorry, Fols. I know it's been very tough for you for some time.

I'm presuming that the consultant who was horrified is not the one you are waiting to see. I know you've had GP problems in the past but might he be persuaded to try to hurry things up for you given the report that the other consultant must have sent to him.

Don't worry about two at once. I had my left knee done in April and the right in early June. It worked out fine.

Oh Fols, I'm so sorry you're in so much pain. It's terrible you can't get an appointment with your consultant.
I wish I could do something to help you.
Sending you some of these (((())))

    Oh Fols

I just want to say sorry you are in so much pain. I hope it eases a bit. I find it impossible to do anything and am also in bed all the time with painful knees as one of my problems and take Oramorph and Tramadol for pain. I guess I'm trying to say I can understand the pain you are talking about a bit.

I hope you can get an appointment soon so you can get proper help.

    I'm sending you cotton (((()))

You can't carry on like this for much longer Folara, can you? It's time to start agitating to gain that appointment. Start politely and if that doesn't work up the ante. DD

Thanks everyone. I just feel a bit like my life is passing me by as all I can do is sit in pain and wait for the next lot of morphine and other stuff to knock me out for a few hours.

I have another appointment with my GP next week and I'm having the back electrocution thingy in August.

I've still got the telephone number of my consultants secretary and I will call her Monday if I have still not been sent an appointment date/time.

Tbh I would rather they did both knees at the same time cos then it's all over and done with, just the hips and back to sort out but at least the pain from them is bearable.

I'm not on a huge amount at the mo as I'm zombying myself out with drugs so if I miss a pocket duty or a spoon share then I really do apologise.

Do they do 2 knees at once? I know weejean had two hips done at once but I remember it being a big thing as it was so unusual. Knees should (says she, in total ignorance) be easier but I don't know if they do them that way. I just had to wait for my first scar to heal over before I had the second.

It must be tough for you right now, Fols. Keep pushing.

So sorry to hear that you are in so much pain with your knees.I can certainly empathise with your situation as this was me a year ago.I got first op eight months ago second six months later. Why dont you phone consultant's secretary today the surgeon may be able to do your op sooner when he sees how bad your situation has become. No harm in trying to push things along.Hope you hear very soon and Good Luck.xx
