Woo hoo! Have a lovely lunch, mig.

As a matter of interest, when did you place your bet? The young Aussie looked a shoe in until the last 4 holes.

Sorry, I'm not in the least bit sporty, what on earth does "a shoe in" mean?

A shoe in is someone who looks as if they've only to turn up to win. Not to be confused with a ringer who is brought into an inferior team with the sole intention of enabling them to win a specific match.

Get in! Well done Mig, I hope you have a splendid lunch.

Isn't it a 'shoo-in'? I'm sure I've seen it written that way. DD

You are quite right, DD. It is ‘shoo-in’ (I think you’re right about the hyphen, too) and that makes a lot more sense – especially when I think of the kerfuffle that often arises when I attempt to unite foot and shoe
