Hi,
Don't worry about asking as I think being aneamic can be related to arthritis, but I'm no medic, just think I read it somewhere when I had a blood test for the same reason. Also, I don't know what painkillers you take but some of them can cause some bleeding or an ulcer in the tummy and again don't worry, if that is the case you may need antibiotics to clear it up.
Ulcers are easy to treat these days!
Hope that helps. Good luck with the tests!

Hi Joan,I am sorry you are worried ,you always give so much support on here, wondering about pernicous anemia .....thats something to do with vit b 12 rather than anemia ...iron de pleted .Marrianne.0

Please don't worry, Joan, you have arthritis and have been on the forum for a long time so you have many friends on here. Unfortunately, arthritis does not often stay on its own as we grow older. We get other ailments to add to the list.
You are being looked after, by your caring gp who is on the case with referring you.
If you wish to chat about it, by all means start a thread like you have done on the LWA.

I think this is the right forum, dachshund, it's medical after all. Anaemia does not clear up that quickly, for me it's taken up to six months. I think it's good they're checking things out my lovely, please don't fret too much. We'll be there with you. (((()))) DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hello Joan
You can post wherever you want, I think you will get more answers on here than chitchat.
I would imagine the scans are to check if there are any ulcers, but like DD says sometimes it hard to get anaemia under control, I will say one thing you are getting good treatment, so you try and leave the worrying to them.
Hopefully they will be able to put your mind at rest after the scan
You take care of yourself...and here some hugs for you ((((()))) xxLove

I have regular blood tests because of my RA medication. About 3 years ago they showed I was anaemic and my GP put me on iron pills and arranged for a gastroscopy although my rheumatologist said he wouldn’t have bothered. My GP said it was routine with someone my age  who was anaemic, just to ensure there was no bleeding.
The gastroscopy was clear so then she arranged a colonoscopy . That was clear too but they couldn’t get the camera all the way as, apparently, I have a long, loopy colon. So then, to be absolutely sure, she arranged a barium enema to check out the other bit.
They all came back clear and, by this time, the iron tablets had got my iron levels back to normal again.
I’d guess that, with you, as with me Joan, they’re just being very careful. ((()))If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I'm also on iron tablets and have been for about 10 years. I'm not aware of having any reviews but I suppose I am monitored through my monthly blood tests. It is a shame they didn't put your mind at rest when they booked the scan and gastroscopy.

Hi Joan
I am so sorry you are worried because i don't want our Joan worried
I am GLAD you are having the test done (my husband has had both ends done and far preferred this end )
Once it's done they will be able to eliminate soem causes and it is so better safe than sorry.
I am sure it's the arthritis though - I am always anaemic too :?
Love and hugs
