To those of you who don't know it, yes, it is Yorkshire Day today - 1st August, every year. Why? No idea.
I know we Yorkies do bang on about our county but I really do love it. I love the people, the countryside, the humour, the accent, the dialect (when you can still hear it) and, definitely, the cricket. I feel Yorkshire first, English second, British third etc etc and, yes, I do actually feel lucky to live here.
So, for one day only, the drinks are on me.

Yorkshire Day? Ye gods, any excuse in your household for alcoholic refreshment is a go-er. Enjoy! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I had no idea it was Yorkshire Day......I'm married to one but I'm a Durham girl. Its been a good mix against all the odds.
Have a drink on me Sticky you deserve an extra one for all the help you've been to me. May0 -
Happy Yorkshire Day to you too.
It's a pity you finished that bottle of wine yesterday, and today is your alcohol free day.
I have a friend who lives in Yorkshire, I wonder if you know her.0 -

I think we all, naturally, and rightly, have a soft spot for what the spaniards call our 'patria chica' ie our little native land, as opposed our big one. I love Cornwall, Devon and Dorset (Oh the blue vinney cheese!) I don't really know Notts (but the cricket ground is superb!) or, to my shame, Durham (another beautiful cricket ground), though we drive through it often enough. I must see the cathedral one day.
As Mr SW is a fully paid up Lancastrian, I don't have to lay on the full roast with Yorks pud followed by rhubarb crumble and, as for all you who are convinced we'll be knocking it back tonight - I'm going to try to stick by my resolution, although it was made before I remembered Yorks Day. We've celebrated with a nice walk and I managed 2/3-3/4 mile so I'm bushed but happy.
Mig - I am deeply shocked Your place on 24th thenIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Oh Mig! You do make me smile. I've just googled Suffolk and Ipswich - not a celebratory day to be had so I'll celebrate every day. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

It's called evangelising, Tony. It's a tough task but someone has to do it.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

My sister has lived in Yorkshire for 30 years. Shes even lost some of her Belfast accent. She also makes the nicest yorkshire puddings ive ever tasted. Yum! So fair play to you Sticky

Sticky, I'm ashamed to say that as a Yorkshire lass, I didn't know it was Yorkshire Day  I will have to make a note of it for next year.
Although I haven't lived in Yorkshire since I left home at 18, I still feel that my roots are there. You can take a girl out of Yorkshire, but you can't take Yorkshire out of a girl .....and I can make a smashing Yorkshire pud :!:0 -
To be honest, I suspect it's a bit of a commercial thing mainly.
Joan (lovely to see you, as ever ) I have a theory that we are all imprinted with our 'roots country'. Whenever I see rolling hills and dry stone walls I feel I'm home.
Numpty, I managed a DRY Yorkshire dayIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
