Hi everybody out there i am Saralea a new user and wondered how many of you out there have O.A. in hands and feet.Iam 57 so no spring chicken and had to give up contract work as i was unable to carry out my duties,as i live alone i am finding it hard to do every day activities that i took for granted, i am also finding it hard to get part time work due to my lack of abilities and absent track :record. I have ran out of savings since stopping work last November and was advised to apply for D.L.A. but never thought it could be so soul destroying, has anyone had the same problems, i also have it on my foot ,knees and back :|:| |

Hello, it's nice to meet you and I am glad you have found us. I'm afraid I cannot help with any proper advice as I am self-employed (although my working hours are dropping and dropping) and I applied for my DLA back in 07 before all the hoop-jumping was introduced. I'm a fat lot of good to you, aren't I? BUT I have OA in my knees and ankles thanks to the joint damage caused by my auto-immune arthritis (which affects my hands, wrists and elbows and now I have carpal tunnel to boot) so I can emapthise with the practicalities of life. They're increasingly tough.

I think a good starting point for you would be to ring the Helpline here, they may be able to point you in the right direction for further help and advice about work and benefits. Perhaps there is some form of home-working that you could do? I am in no position to advise about that but there has to be something out there, somewhere. You could also try contacting your local CAB for information. I hope someone else will soon be along who can offer much more help but please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. I wish you well. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben
