wouldn't it be good if, just one day, I could get through it without resorting to pain killers - sorry to whinge, bit down, I was doing so well and thought today I could get away without any drugs but now my leg will hardly weight bear and keeps cramping too, nothing major compared to most of you here but OUCH !!!

Stupid question this, I know, but some days it feels more muscle than joint - is this usual?

Ta - thanks for listening.

Sue

    Hi Sue,
I was told by my GP that RA (if thats what youve got) can affect all the tendons and ligaments running through your body. So maybe thats what your feeling?

    Hi Elaine
I was told it is OA but have never had any tests to confirm. I suspect it is OA because my knees have taken many bangs over the year - I fall over matchsticks ! But I suppose the muscles could be taking extra strain?

    thanks
    Sue

I think you have hit the nail on the head Sue, saying that could be the muscles taking the strain. I hope tomorrow is better for you. Soon the weekend. :D

    Hi Sue
I do know what you mean, when you are in sever pain it feel like its everywhere, but it may be coming from the muscles, you will be walking differently, sitting differently,so this put strain on them.
I do hope you get some relief very soon...has for not taking painkillers..I have dreams about this...xx
    Love

    Hi Barbara12

If only it weren't a dream, it would be so good to have a day without pain killers wouldn't it - perhaps a nice glass of wine instead

Dreams can come true though - can't they ?

Oooh that sounds like something that could do with some research - perhaps we should volunteer.

You take care of you too

    Hi Sue
    Yes I understand....I've got OA in various places.....Sometimes it is real pain but other times its muscles or a reall ache if that makes sense {rather than pain}
As for painkillers I know what you mean but I was always told by meds to keep on top of the pain......NOT to play catch up with it.
After my THR I thought I could do without some of the p/killers and thats when I got really told off :o
    I think its true....better to stay on top of the pan {as much as we can}

    Love

Thanks Helena, you summed up my situation over the last few days exactly, its a very persistent ache in my thigh and lower back, a bit like cramp. The knee doesn't feel as though it hurts too badly (that's tempting fate isn't it).
I know I should keep on top with painkillers but sometimes I think my poor stomach and liver could do with a bit of a rest - I suppose its the lesser of two evils really!
Gosh, doesn't that sound down - sorry, it's not mean't to - I think its the thought of the pile of ironing that awaits, now where is my knight in shining armour?
    Love Sue

A steady low dose of dullers can take off enough of an edge to enable you to get on with things without being aware of the aches. If it is OA in your knees then yes, you'll be standing differently, moving differently, walkiing differently (albeit unconciously) and that throws other joints out of kilter and puts muscles under tension. Have you considered using a stick for support? They can ease quite a bit of strain. Whenever you can sit with your feet up, a cushion under your knees for support and use either heat or ice to soothe aching joints. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi Sue
Dont know if its any help but I've just finished some ironing....not a lot...one pair of summer trousers, and 5 tops but what I do is lower my ironing board and I have a perch stool and I sit on that and do my ironing sitting down. My back gets very sore standing and doing it.
I still have to have a lot of breaks

    Hey Sue
I know just how you feel with the going without pain relief thing, wouldn't it be nice! I did manage it for a while in 2008 but that was when I was lucky enough to be living 100 yards from a carribean beach so could get up each morning, hobble in the warm down to the sea and let the warm sea do it's best on my sore joints...why do the NHS not prescribe that for us all?!

I hope things pick up soon but I also get the ouchy muscles with things go bad, I think they start working their socks off and then get tired and sore too :(

yes it can effect the muscles, apart from the effects of the arthritis, its all to do with the way you hold yourself a certain way to walk then it puts preasure on other muscles.

wow - carribean beach on the NHS, just think of the money they could save on drugs if they shipped us all out there - perhaps we should suggest it to Mr Cameron!

thank you Colin also - the muscle thing makes sense when you think about it, I just haven't had it this bad before.

Holiday next week though so at least I can have some feet up time :D
