Went for a hobble round the block earlier , took about 15 mins , really pleased with myself (17 days post op after TKR) , still feel comfortable using both crutches so that's what I did ! , we have a 13 week old Border Terrier so she and partner came along too , got my ice on now with a cuppa x

Well done!! That is really amazing.
Now make sure you keep resting up and letting things settle...if that is possible with a 13 week old pup
Love LV xxHey little fighter, things will get brighter0 -

Hello Pegleg.
you are doing well. if your knee aches at night try putting a pillow under your knee i found that helped.

take care.

Thank you , I'm not sure how much to do really , I do sit with it elevated and iced for most of the time , I do my exercises a few times a day but I don't ever push or pull it to a point where it hurts . Some of the posts on this forum do scare me with tales of harsh physio and people doing far more than I feel able to do , I was told little and often , any more and it just swells and then I can't do anything ! xx0 -
Elna likes this. Good progress, Peg. There is no harm in trying to push the knee a little bit more than it wishes to go to give it a tiny bit of encouragement, no forcing though, that will not do you or the knee much good at all. A bit of coaxing and talking to the knee a little firmly is fine though, I found so anyway. One does expect some pain in the early days on exercising or pulling sensation perhaps, but on resting, elevating and icing it should soon diminish.
You are doing well. Thumbs up!

Well done Pegleg, a little and often is far better for you and the new joint. These things do take a deal of time to 'bed in' and heal and although that can be boring at times it is for the best. Keep up the good work! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Ahh thank you , sounds like I'm doing it right , yes it does feel very tight and I do try to just give it a bit more each time I'm doing the exercises , I've had lots of surgery on this leg , this being the most major, so I know these early days are the hardest , I'm just going to carry on as I am then and not try to be a hero ! xx0

It is frustrating - I had two major open synovectomies on my left leg within 18 months of each other. The recuperation for the second was far easier than the first as that was a summer op. The first took place at the end of February 2002 and the days were dull and gloomy - and I was in hospital for my birthday. The physio went on for months but by the August the swelling was returning. The second was June 2003 and that was much easier - undiluted Wimbledon to watch! Still far too much phsyio for my liking - - three sessions a week at one stage but the brighter weather made a difference. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I think you're doing well, pegleg. When do you see the physio again? It's always good to have it confirmed that we are doing the right things and neither overdoing it nor underdoing it.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Going back for physio on Thur 9th , its straighter than it was last time I saw her , and I've kept up the exercises so hopefully she will be happy , but yes its difficult knowing just how much they want . I'm only on paracetamol and gabapentin so I kind of think if I was really hurting it I would need more than that . Think its just mainly the swelling that inhibits a lot of movement , and obviously the healing inside that we can't see , and that's just a time process , so as the weeks pass it will get easier xx0

well done Pegleg, you sound like your getting on well.. the pillow under your knee in bed really does work and makes it more comfortable

Thank you , yes I will try that , must admit I find sleeping hard at the best of times so this is proving to be a challenge ! :x0
