Did you know about this free service? I didn't till last night when my Mother-in-Law was taken very ill suddenly.

It's for when you have a medical emergency but it isn't life or death situation. They will question and advise and if necessary send a paramedic round to assess and treat.

They arrived within 6 minutes and after giving on the spot treatment sent for an ambulance and my Milly was taken to hospital for more treatment (she's home today).

It's not available in all areas yet but if it is in yours it works very well indeed so if you have an emergency and need help or advice ring 111 free from a mobile or landline.

Link below to their website.

Thanks Diamond. My Milly is much better, in fact she could talk this morning so we know she's recovering but she did frighten us.

As for little Jack .............see for yourself he's gorgeous.

    Ooooh I'm in love!

Now, what was the thread about? Oh yes, Dial 111. No, don't think I'd heard of it and thanks. How does it differ from NHS Direct? Do you know?

    Good news about your MIL.

    (I'm still in love.)

Oh Linda......Wonderful photo of baby Jack. I'm jealous.....
I was under the impression that 111 was the number to dial instead of 999
I might be wrong...just thought I heard it somewhere.
I'm glad your MIL is ok.
I'm still jealous....but....hopefully youngest daughter has stopped taking the pill......watch this space.

You dial 111 if it's an emergency but not a life or death situation or if your unsure whether it's life or death. It's different from NHS Direct in that a paramedic will come out in an ambulance car to treat the patient. If he/she thinks the patient needs to go into hospital they will ring direct and an ambulance arrives within a few minutes.

You should still ring 999 if it is life or death.

(Thank you so much for all the compliments about Jack, I love that little boy so much and he's only a few weeks old :D )

PS Earthspirit I'll PM you about how to get photos on as it's not very straightforward.

Little Jack is georgeous, Linda. There is nothing like being a grandmother is there? We cannot emphasise enough to anyone how wonderful it is but they understand immediately if they become one.

Jack will always be such a grand "pick up" and "tonic" for you and your husband. Believe me!:D.

Thank you Elna, you were right all along and are still right now. :D I can appreciate the joy you get from little Lola. The hardest thing is not seeing him and keeping away but we have to let them live their lives too.

I agree! We feel fit to burst with happiness, don't we! It must be even harder for you to keep away a little as I believe you live much closer than we do. Ours is about 20-25 mins by car and just over an hour on the train if I wish to go on my own, because like you, I do not drive.

I made a album for Lola of photos taken every time I had seen her and with her relatives on our and Ian's side of the family and presented it to her on her first birthday. In the album I also added a diary of dates of every time I had seen her and what we had done, things she had said and so on. I hope that in years to come she will look back at it fondly and remember her old Gran Elna. :D

What a wonderful idea Elna, I think I might copy you as I already keep a daily diary :D

They actually live 25 mins by car so similar distance to that between you and Lola, but I'm unable to use a train.

Anyway going to chain myself up now so I can resist visiting.

    Lots of love.
