Good afternoon/Evening.

I am all new to this forum, so hello. But have been suffering, Living with arthritis for about 10 years now since my very early 20's. Now hit 30 and suffering quiet badly with hands, wrists, Knees, Feet. Just searching onto the internet and came across this site so hoping to use it and have a way of getting to see how everyone else copes.

I am just seeing if there is any tricks anyone knows about how to stop feeling sick once taking the medication?

Cheers

Matt

    Howdie Matt

Nice to meet you. I also got arthritis in my early 20s and I'm now in my early 30s - what meds are you on? I know methotrexate made me feel nausea but upping frolic acid helped with that. Equally the wrong anti-imflammatories messed with my stomach, I changed to a different type but used stomach protector drugs (stop you producing stomach acid) to help that.

I find this site amazingly helpful and supportive. Not been on here long myself but I've got loads from the lovely people on here.

    Love LV xx

Hello, it's nice to meet you and I am glad you have found us. What type of arthritis do you have and what meds are you on? I'm presuming it's an auto-immune type and that tablet meth may be the culprit - this is what I've learned from others on here who have similar trouble.

    1. Always take the dose with food, and preferably in the evening so you can (hopefully) sleep through any nastiness.

    2. If you are on a largish dose then splitting it over two days can help.

    3. If you are feeling nauseaus then try any of the following: suck an ice lolly, sip an infusion of fresh ginger, try sipping ginger wine (the non-alcoholic type, peppermint tea is another option.

    4. An increase in folic acid can lessen nausea.

    5. I used to experience nausea after my weekly alendronic acid tablet - I found that a full-fat cola-type drink would help that.

I hope this helps and I wish you well. DD

Hello Matt. I've nothing to add to what the others have said but it's good to meet you and I hope you'll find the site helpful.

Thank you so much for all this advice, i have caught up on a few of those, but never was told by the Dr's or Nurses about upping my dosage of Folic so will be doing that from now on.

I am currently on Sulfasalazine, Methotrexate (tablet form as injections made me violently sick) and the usual pain killers.

Thank you very much for the information and welcome. I will look back more often this site now and thank you once again for the help.

Just a word of caution. Best to check with your rheumatology helpline about upping the folic acid. (I'm pretty sure they'll be OK with it but...)

Hi, and welcome from me too.
I was told I could take folic acid every day except meth day.
Like stickywicket says though, best to check first.
    All the best,

manxwozzie, we are not docs so please check with your GP or your rheumatology team / helpline about upping the FA. I'm on injected meth (the tablets brought me out in a rash), sulph and humira and some other stuff too. After a number of years managing this disease I do fiddle about with some of the meds but if I want to really change summat I seek proper advice first. DD

    Hi Matt

    Welcome to the forum.

I take anti-emetics if I feel sick after taking my cocktail of meds.

Look forward to seeing you around the boards.

Hi Matt, welcome to AC I've had Osteo-porosis since my early 20's so age wise similar to you, and can understand how you feel age wise! I have found I was very naughty when taking my meds and was sick! It was because I didn't eat when taking my 9 different meds I'm on! Now since I have taken them with food it's made a massive difference like the others have mentioned eat with meds! If you ever wanna chat please feel free to PM (private message) me! And welcome again!!
