I shall keep an eye out for your post and hope that you get some positive feedback from the clinic. There are lots of types of pain meds out there, there must be one that will suit you and help you to have a more comfortable life.
Obviously if you look into hypnotism you'll need to check them out in your area and be careful that he/she is fully registered.
My chap was recommended by loads of people here and has been a medical hypnotist for years. He is registered with several of the main societies and well respected in his and the medical proffession. Also my gp recommends him along with one other lady in our area.
Hypnotism is not for everyone but anything is worth researching when we are on our quest for help.
I'm a bit of an odd bod myself, having to cope my whole life with pain and disability tends to do that to some people. The only good thing about getting older is you get bolder and don't worry so much about what other people think.
Well off to read a nice gruesome crime book.... Good luck, Joy0 -
Hi Joy,
I like the way you think and talk, when you have problems in life it gives you a quirky way of thinking and sense of humour.
I will be very careful in finding the right person and asking the right people for their reccomendation as you are putting yourself in their hands fully.
over the years I have strained, sprained, torn, broken mny things but the arthritis started hitting me in my early 40's, its part genetic too, both parents had arthritis, mum was the early starter too in the family, and im told we were like 2 peas in the same pod, but the pain 24 hours a day does tend to change you in a lot of ways, and I tend to value my "ME" time where I can try to recover from the days trials and tribulations, and nobody stays around that time, as they know thats when I get all my frustrations out in one way or another, and the only one safe from my getting it all out of the way in the evening is my dog Taz, he stays by my side, or on my lap and gives me his unconditional love as always, he is my stress reliever alright,
I love gruesome crime books too, I read the translated versions of Jo Nesbo who is a Norwegian writer of Harry Hole fame, I got my first book of his at xmas and now own all of them, and you just cannot put them down either, I read his books and I can actually forget the pains and the CTS playing up for the time I stick my head in the book, im old fashioned I prefer a book to my kindle, though I only hold it with my better hand, check out some of his books you might like them. :-D
all the best

Hi i have severe tmj in my jaw and require full jaw replacement.
I had been on tramadol 8 tablets a day it took over my life with the fact i slept alot, u cant function properly as they make you drowsy but they are excellent for pain.
I 4 weeks ago decided enough was enough and took the plunge and went for hypnotherapy for the pain as i couldnt eat properly with my jaw an lost over 3st, slept my life away, had to stop work etc.
Hypnotherapy has been a real success for me, i havent had one painkiller in 3 weeks, can open my mouth, eat and have got back to work! a real transformation in such a short space of time. I am pain free completely.
It doesnt work for everyone but it has me so i would say to anyone who is on painkillers for pain to try it. What have you got to lose hope this helps xxx0 -
Hi Julie, I'll look for the author you mentioned. I love real books too and will read anyone and everything, usually from the library but my family usually buy me a few for Xmas/birthdays from Amazon.
I can't manage a kindle as I have terrible hands and fingers. I borrowed my sister's and tried to balance it and put it on a cushion but it was hopeless, for me anyway.
I have several book holders. My favourite is the Readezy. My hubby stuck a non slip mat on the bottom and on the end of each bit that holds the book and it's great.I truly couldn't read without it.
Your dog sounds lovely. Sadly I have an allergy to fur but do love dogs. Both my sons have one and they put up with my sneezing and I put up with their fur so I do get a good cuddle now and again.
So sorry to hear of your troubles with Arthur, he really is a big pain and the scourge of the human race in my opinion, so much suffering. Talking of mum's I look in the mirror and there she is....Deary me.
I have had RA since age 3 when it damaged my heart and then the OA joined it. Had 6 big surgeries since I was 16, countless epidurals and injections, buckets of pills that have left their mark on my liver etc;
I then got smashed up in two different car accidents that have left me with a damaged spine, just my luck , both on a Tuesday morning too.
I also have psoriasis, underactive thyroid (after Radio Active Iodine 30 years ago for Graves disease),hypertension, asthma, inherited cholesterol and macular degeneration. I am the eldest of 5 children, the others are all happy and healthy, I seem to have got the lot. However having had it forever I never think about it and managed to nab a lovely man 40 years ago. Had two strapping sons and now have 5 scrummy grandsons with another due next Feb. You will notice no females here but me.. quite nice really.
Getting on with it has always been my way and trying everything once is another.
It's really nice to talk to people who know what it's like to be me, as a rule I rarely say anything to anyone about my conditions.
Good to hear from Catrocks1982 that the hynotherapy has worked it's magic on her too (sorry catrocks if you are a chap!). It's nice to hear another success story.
You've both cheered me up today as I've had to spend all of it on the bed. My troll like tootsies , full of arthur, have just about driven me up the wall and I've had to crawl to the loo which always makes me grumpy as it reminds me it's about time I cleaned the bathroom floor!
Lots of luck Julie and keep on laughing at life, it really is the only way.
Hope the rain stops, after all it's Bank Holiday week-end what more can we expect .Joy0 -
i am a girl lol, i still have no pain 1 whole month of no pain. Definately worth a shot, im so glad i went for it.
I am just back from holiday and so glad i had energy to go lol
Raring to go now xx0 -
I took tramadol for over two years. It didn't really help so much with the pain aspect, I was given paracetamol too for breakthrough pain.
One thing that really bothered me when taking tramadol was the awful, awful nightmares. I would then lay awake for hours on end, it was dreadful.
I would wake up and shake and shake and be terrified of even getting up to go to the toilet. Sounds mad doesn't it? a grown woman.
I spoke to my doctor a few times about it then one time, another doctor took me off tramadol because she thought because of the nightmares, I wasn't getting any quality of life.
I am on patches now, they doen't take all the pain away, I still receive paracetamol too.0 -
Hi Guys,
Well I went to my pain clinic appointment and I talked over the problems I had with the tramadol and the evil side effects, main ones being feeling sick as a dog, loss of appertite because of it, and horrible nightmares where when I woke up I was too shaken up by them to turn my light off again. and I told her problems with getting an appointment with the doctor to get some meds to help until I saw her, the appointment is for this saturday btw
we had a good chat and I got offered 2 choices, first I could go back onto the 30/500 co-codamol 2 at 4 times a day or go onto Morphine itself, needless to say im going for the co-codamol as I have 10 years to wait before I can see the orthopeadic surgeons about sorting out this very dodgy thumb and hand, as they wont do the surgery I will need until im 60. and that is from my straight talking gp. so I said I want to hold off the Morphine until I really really have to take it due to the time im going to have to wait, even though neither of us knows what kind of state the hand will be in by then.
This time she is leaving me 6 weeks so by then I will know whether the co-codamol will help or if its time to bring out the big guns. I used to use that before but I havent for well over a year now so hopefully I can get the full use out of it.
its been a very rough few weeks considering I was surviving on 1/4 of the strength of pain meds I had been on for a long time, and have been run down a lot, very moody and ultra touchy, slightest thing made it like "light the touchpaper to the fireworks and then run like hell". :x
so on saturday I can go back to stronger meds again, and hopefully I can feel my normal self again soon, due to the meds problems I ended up being not a very nice person for those few weeks, thats how bad the pain went on me,
but I have been told I cannot try the tramadol again, as its just not worth it, in 1 week I actually lost half a stone in weight through not eating. yikes..........
so this is my update on the tramadol matter.
best wishes
Julie

I've just recently been prescribed 50mg Tramadol but due to the weird spaced out feeling, I only really take them when absolutely necessary. Like some of the other guys, I'm working full time and don't want to be all lightheaded and spaced out.
I've just finally been diagnosed with OA and I've tried about 3 different anti-inflammatories but had an allergic skin reaction to them which was horrendous, so I'm also pretty limited in what I can take!
I agree that it works for some people but best to take it when you really need to.
Good luck!

Hi Julie, sorry about your continuing frustrating experiences with pain meds. It's a real conumdrum getting pain control right.
My experience is that we never quite get what we really want. No pain, No side effects..
I did wonder why you have been told that you have to wait until your 60 for thumb and hand surgery as I've had both mine done in my 50's.
I also know other people in our arthritis group who've had hand/thumbs done in their 30/40's too.
I hope it's not to do with cuts (!) NHS type.
Just wondered.
Hope you are feeling ok and not too disappointed about your Pain Clinic visit as it sounds as if you've had a rotten time recently.
What a life.... Joy0 -
Hi Joy and Chrissie
I agree things never turn out how you want it to, I just want the pain level down to a point where its easier to ignore the stupid thing for a while, just for a bit of a relax just for a change, but we cant even get that, which is a shame, just to be able to forget for a few hours that you dont have a "normal" body anymore would be beautiful.
A doctor I had before he left always talked straight to me about things, as thats how I like it, and the cant do things before im 60 is due to cutbacks on different operations to save some money, they now are reducing a lot of the different ops in my area, I have a friend who works at our local hospital and its so bad now that if she could she would quit in protest at the unfairness of it all.
it depends what part of the country you live in for how quick you can get something sorted out with an operation. I could get it done if I went private a lot quicker, but my job dont pay that great a rate to afford that, so I will be staying in the snail lane and wait until they get round to it.
Im not doing too bad, I have my ups and downs, but that is normal, but at least saturday I can get some stronger medication to make life easier on myself.
well in the words of Bon Jovi's song Bounce " call it karma, call it luck, me I just dont give a ( the word rhymes with Duck)
Also the Only Way is Up !!! im fighting back again, after a rough time, but I dont stay down for long, I always Bounce back.
All the best
Julie

I'm really sorry and really mad that the reason fo your long wait is cut backs, not a medical one. Grrr.
I so empathise with you about having a bit of respite from the pain.
I'm in a big flare up at the moment and almost ready to kick the cat... who quite frankly has never done anything to deserve it! No I wouldn't really but she will sit on my poor painful tootsies and purr at me..
Oh well we all just keep on plodding along taking the awful pills and having a good old moan now and again. Keep on smiling and bouncing, you have made me smile today.
Take care, Joy.0 -
I'm sorry you're flaring, Joy. I hope it's a short one.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thank you stickywicket, I'm a bit low which is something I try very hard not to be. However I'm sure I'll pull myself together again soon.0

Hi Joy,
its unfortunate that in my area we are put into this position in the first place, too many people and not enough money it seems to deal with.
All I can say is dum blodig hånd, lukket faen opp. I will dm you with the english translation, as its a bit naughty,
You sound just like me when I flare up, and that is to be low in patience and temper, my brother swears his bald spot is down to me breathing fire during one of the flare ups.
but as you say we are great at plodding on and taking the pills, and doing the english thing of having a good moan now and again.
I must admit im feeling so tired at the moment which is one of the early signs that a flare up is on its way, more so as its been really chilly and that sets mine off along with the rain, time to batten down the hatches.
I hope your flare up does not last long, as its the worst thing to go through, so Im really hoping its a quick hello and goodbye job for you.
Im glad I have made you smile today even with your flare up pain, but my family do reckon im crazy at times, and I just reply to them "whatever I am you lot made me" and Tiggers bounce and are crazy too.
A big gentle friendly hug comes from me to you.
All the best
Julie
