Hi
I went to see the NHS podiatrist today as id been referred...Had previously seen a private woman who had scared living daylights out of me convinced I had rheumaoid arthritis and diabetes....The only good thing i got was a free silicone bunion protector...
Anyhow...Saw this girl today who said my little toe had moved up and thus pushed the bone out, making a tailors bunion...Said it may or may not have been birkenstocks....She then proceeded to make me some insoles to try and lift the area below the little toe to support it...However when she made this i couldnt wear my sandals with the t-bar and toes in as it pushed against the big toe and wouldve caused a blister...Was told as i wasnt getting too much pain anymore with help of silicone protector to wait for the colder weather and wear in the insoles then....If that didnt help then back to her for other custom made insoles or to orthotics...Got told also coujld wear sandals but suportive ones on holiday as it was impossible to go to hot places and wear closed in ones...Fine for a week or so! Hooray!!
So im there on 26th Sept, Pre op date on 27th @Wrightington and off on holiday 28th September..PHEW!!

It sounds like a satisfactory appointment, Elaine and I'm glad it's going well for you. Hopefully better still now you have your insoles and even better after your TKR. I promise you, however, that it is possible to wear 'closed in' sandals or shoes in hot weather as I've been doing it for years, including temperatures of 90f plus. It's not comfy, but it is possible. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Yes I know it is possible to wear closed in sandals in this hot weather just hate how my feet get so hot and slippy (I do wash them every day) and it just feels uncomfy like you say...Have got some which support foot and have a strap at heel which should make them cooler....I think too the insoles will be better once get TKR and start walking like a normal person and not limping along as I do??!
