Damned ribs.

Actually damned everything. My left heel is extraordinarily sore, it's nicely pink and hot but doesn't feel inflamed, my thinking is possibly a bone spur but I hope not. My toes ache, my ankles are twanging, my knees are burning, my sacro ilacs are so sore, the carpal tunnel is fizzing away, and the damned pulled muscles on the right hand side are still sending lovely needles through the upper body. Ye gods. I'm sneezing and wheezing like a good 'un despite the inhaled steroids (immuno-suppressant meds? What immuno-suppressant meds? They ain't suppressing nowt.) and I'm on the very thin end of the humira wedge. Balls to the lot of it.

On the plus side it is sunny, we are going out this afternoon and evening with friends (that's going to involve walking a fair bit but borrox to that) and I'm sensibly gong to ask 'im indoors to lug out the Clatterator from Daisycar (for those who don't know the Clatt is my four-wheeled rollator, so named as it makes an absolute racket). I suspect I'm going to regret matters tomorrow but what the hell. It'll be worth it. DD

There are (to paraphrase someone or other) ribs, damned ribs and damned, arthritic damaged ribs. What you need right now is for the rest of your ailing body parts to obligingly pack their suitcases and take a few days off at the seaside - or, indeed, in some other poor ****'s body - until your ribs have mended. Instead, what happens is they all leap on the bandwagon, get out their own twangy instruments and start improvising countermelodies. You are, in other words, totally anglo-saxoned.

Tomorrow, as Pollyanna, or some equally nauseating character remarked, is another day. Enjoy being with your friends today. We'll be here to pick up the pieces.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

You might just as well go out with you friends. You're going to be in pain anyway, so why not have as good a time as possible?
I hope things improve for you very soon, and you have a good time, in spite of your pain.
    Thinking of you,

Wise words Numpty, and thanks to Sticky and Mig too. I've voltaroled, dicloed, cocoed and given myself a good talking too so I shall shortly be setting off on the afternoon's festivities. I doubt the evening ones will be broached but at least I'll have taken part in summat. I've put some tubigrip round the heel, hoping that that will take some of the strain - my ankle supports have the holes in the wrong place so the edge presses on the sore bit. It hurts. :( Never mind, onwards and sideways! :) DD

Oh DD you are having a rough ride at the mo aren't you....my feet are the same and mine are bone spurs (as pointed out by gp) and I know how sore they can get.

Go out and enjoy some quality time with your friends, be it an hour or more, you will feel better for it (spiritually if not physically) just rest and more rest tomorrow.

    Take care x Dee x

    Hi DD,

Go enjoy what you can- and deal with the fall out later- me, I'm just back from 2 days in London and feeling completely washed out, I know I overdid things but life is to be lived and enjoyed as best we can- we are all much more than the sum of our various ailments. I hope you have a special time with your friends. :) . Deb xx

Enjoy yourselves and face payback later ! I'm doing the same as we're off to spend a few days with sis in law and her hubby , they're good company so we'll enjoy seeing them but I know I'll find it difficult without my home comforts . Jillyb

That was one of the most uncomfortable times I've had. I shouldn't have forced myself to go hoping that things would improve. I did and they didn't. I didn't even drink.  Despite the dullers etc the pain was just too much. Dammit all to hell. DD

Don't blame yourself, DD. We all encouraged you to go. Often these things help: sometimes they don't. It's a lottery. No-one's at fault, least of all you. I said yesterday we'd be here to pick up the pieces and here we are, ready and willing. I just hope today's a bit better for you. ((()))

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I think I can say, hand-on-heart, that last night was one of the most miserable ever. In addition to the pillow for the lower limbs and the bath towel for the sweaty moments I introduced a scatter cushion to provide some padding between my right arm and right ribs. I had to sleep on my left side (which is not the natural side for me) and lay there seething with envy as 'im indoors slept like a baby. I am uncharacteristically tetchy at the moment which I guess is due to frustration and exasperation. Grrrrrrrr. Anyhoo, tonight I will be experimenting with those hot pads that you stick on, they're supposed to give up to 10 hours relief (yeah, right) but hopefully I'll be able to feel some kind of benefit (whilst melting like a candle in the sun) and therefore get some shut-eye. Oh, and Joan? Merci beaucoup for the compliment but courageous is a step too far - what's the French for stupid? DD

Au contraire, mon ami, tu es très brave.
Je sius vraiment désolé que tu es malade.

Blimey, I can't keep this up :!: My French is decidedly rusty

I hope you will have a better night tonight, and good luck with the heat pads.
Arthritis is such a b***er, and I don't often swear :!:

Gosh Joan. I don't know what to say (in English, let alone French) apart from thank you.

Right, I whacked on one of those heat patches yesterday and yes, it made a difference. I shall use another one today but ask 'im indoors to position it as I can't quite get it in the right place. It certainly helped yesterday and it struck me that it is during the day that I need that extra help as I do move about a fair bit (I've just roared with laughter at that) but today I will be Clatterator-lugging so having that slapped on will be a help. I hope.

The left heel is still pink and hot but I can't feel any inflammation. I'm wearing a double layer of tubigrip on that to give it some support and to stop my shoes rubbing against it. There is a touch of plantar fasciitis under my right heel, the joints are doing what they usually do, the insect bites aren't healling so all in all it's adding up to make a very nasty total. :x Hey-ho, it will all ease in time, things usually do. DD
