A long wait . . .

Saw my lovely GP 6 weeks ago who said I needed an x-ray on my left knee, just phoned the GP surgery to find out what has happened as I haven't heard anything from the local hospital. They tell me that the waiting list for non-urgent x-ray is 6 - 8 weeks - they have phoned the local hospital who told them they haven't received a card - I now have to have a new card filled out, and presumably wait another 6 - 8 weeks, although the very helpful lady on the end of the phone said she would ask the doctor to make this 'a request with a degree of urgency'.
Arrgghh :(
Thanks for reading, rant over, now where did I put my painkillers !!!

How frustrating for you, I am so sorry. Here in my bit of Suffolk we have a different system, the GP or whoever gives you a form and you toddle in to Xray whenever it suits. Sometimes I've had to wait for an hour or so while they see in-patients or emergencies but overall it's a pretty good system. Anyhoo, your turn will come, keep chasing them up about it so you don't get forgotten again. Take care. DD

Oh DD, what a wonderful sensible system you have. We're a bit more rural around here and the local dept is only open on certain days so a week or so is not unusual. I will keep on top of it though, I used to work in the NHS for 15 or so years so I am only too aware of the pressure they are under and how easy it is for things to be missed.
Coming to this forum really helps when frustration sets in though, my poor hubby needs a rest at times (bless him), I'm sure he just feels so helpless when things are extra painful.
The other thing as well is that there are so many others here in much worse situations than myself - it's humbling really, and motivating too.
    Love and thanks to everyone

Wherever we go in life, Sue, there will always be people worse off than us. That doesn't take our own pain away.

Someone has messed up with your appointment, as a result you'll have a longer wait and it'd have been longer still if you hadn't chased it up yourself. All this is annoying, frustrating and, yes, more painful. The fact that someone else may have several broken limbs might put it in perspective but doesn't take away your pain.

Husbands? Bless 'em. They need a break from our arthritis too, sometimes.

Thanks stickywicket - I love your name by the way, I can never come up with anything quite so original, the only other signature I use is confused.com but that's been done already!

I've just had a phone call from the GP surgery saying the doc wants to see me so that he can re-refer me, ah well, at least I'm seeing the one who specialises in knees, and the last time I saw him we had a good chat about the state of English cricket, this time we may deviate into how well we did in the Olympics - after all Yorkshire did finish higher up the medal table than Australia!

There you are - I came into this forum feeling cross and sore and now I'm smiling, still sore but smiling as well, a much better perspective don't you think?

    Love, Sue
