MRI... Not so bad :-)

good morning everybody :D

first of all I would like to thank you for your pocket duties and all your well-wishes :D

we got to the hospital rather early yesterday as we haven’t been to this one before and didn’t quite know where to park , where the Department was and what the evening traffic was going to be like.

I expected that we would be sat rather a long time but was pleasantly surprised when they called my name is earlier than expected.
When I went into the scanner room I was again pleasantly surprised because the scanner was shiny and new. :P
I had to remove the leg because of the metal bits but they were so very helpful helping me climb onto the bed (some staff are not so helpful :? )
With this scanner they placed a sort of cage over my face. (I haven’t had this happen before) I think he said (but I am not sure) that this helps take some photos too. There was also a mirror placed on it so that you could see the door and out side of the scanner which made you feel less claustrophobic.
They also played Michael Buble through the headphones which was very nice ( I love Buble)
When I was being fed through into position I closed my eyes and kept them closed for the 40 min that it took to do the scan.
When the scan had finished you can imagine the relief I felt…..but….. because this scanner was new it wasn’t programmed to do a certain image so they asked me would I go on to another scanner to finish off. Well I couldn’t say no could I. I did ask though how long will this take on the radiographer told me it would be 4 min. I can manage that I said.
So off we went into another room and again climbed onto another scanner, a bit older than the previous one but not as old as the ones I’ve had before and this one wasn’t so bad either. And as the radiographer had promised it took just 5 min this time so that was great.

All in all it wasn’t a bad appointment at all :D

All I can advise for people who are going for a neck MRI, or any MRI where your head is inside the scanner, is to close your eyes and keep them closed, breathe deeply and try to think about nice things.

Thank you all again for your support

Love Juliepf xx

Glad that it was a good appointment for you. What a good idea having mirrors so that you can see out. I got quite panicky on about my 5th MRI until I tilted my head back a bit and could see that it was an open tube! LOL! I think I was just having a bad day overall!

Also glad that they were nice helping you on and off. Did you get to choose your own music? I have only had two out of six with music and both times it was just the radio. It does make the time go much faster doesn't it? Much better than listening to the scanner - on the "bad" day I mentioned above, I could "hear" the machine talking to me!

Hope you get good results and have a good day today.

    Thank you Mig and Frogmella

Frogmella It was their music and he asked what i wanted to listen to, luckily he suggested Bouble :D

I have had 4 mri's in total 2 with just my legs in and 2 with the head inside and you are quite right about them either giving you just the headphones and forgetting to turn on the music or just the radio. But these hospital staff were so lovely and caring that it did make me feel much more calm and the appointment not so daunting.
As for the results, I am not looking forward to them as this is for the 2nd part of my operation . . gulp. .

Hope you both have a good day

Well done Julie! I was thinking about you!

I know you are not looking forward to the results though - but hopefully you won't have to wait too long before you know what's what.

thank you Pegleg Valval and Barbara

Pegleg thank you, yes I thought I did pretty well too :D:D

Val , your poor dad going through the scanner without the headphones, even if you are a bit deaf I think you should still be given them, I hope he was okay.

Barbara, don't worry about missing pocket duties, I think I've missed a lot lately  but I have been thinking about everybody even though I haven't posted for a while.
I don't think I will get the result I really want DISCHARGED  but yes I do hope that this operation doesn't take as long to do i.e the waiting list as the last one did. I hope you are well :)

I'm sorry that I'm late to this, I've had a bitty and busy day. I am glad that the staff were so helpful and kind, it does make a difference doesn't it? I've never had music just headphones but I don't mind, I'm used to to racket! I hope you haven't been too tired today and that you feel OK within yourself. DD

Thanks for that Julie, now you've described what happens I don't think I'd worry if I had to have a scan ............................unless they asked me to remove a leg first, of course

It's always reassuring when someone tells you exactly what's going to happen. :D

Glad you've got it over with, now we'll have to wait for the results. I wish you could be discharged too.
