I am really fed up with this now, I have yet another kidney infection, last one was last month, over the past four years I was getting them regularly, then I didn't get one for 5months & thought yippee no more, spoke to soon I think  The biggest hurdle is getting past the receptionist at the doctors, last month I sent a water sample with my daughter to the doctors for the nurse to test for infection, the receptionist told her sorry we can not take samples your mom will have to come to the surgery, my daughter tried to explain that because I have had so many infections my doctor had written it in the book under their desk for the nurse to check so I didn't have to make an appointment, but would they listen, would they heck,my daughter came home told me what had happened, so I rang to speak to the duty doctor, he was livid, It was starting to happen again today, but thankfully another doctor rang me today, I didn't have to explain anything to him, he just told me there would be a prescription waiting at the reception thank god
Thank you for listening to me babbling on Sue

Helo queenfan, very sorry to hear of your kidney troubles. I also have recurring infections, usually in the summer.
Luckily my gp is great but I always feel guilty , sometimes I end up having three or four in a couple of months. When this happens I usually end up with a long term antibiotic for four/six months. This was recommended by the hospital where I was sent for investigations. Maybe if you are getting regular infections you should ask if a consultant appointment may be appropriate.
Just wanted to say you have my sympathy, especially with difficult receptionists. We have several lovely ones and one...dragon.
Hope you feel better soon, nice to 'meet' you on this wonderful forum.0 -
Sorry to hear about your recurring kidney infection, not very pleasant.Has your gp ever mentioned going on low grade antibiotic to help with this problem. As Soretoe mentioned you may possibly be sent for further investigations to find out what is going on.I hope this is sorted out quickly for you.Regarding receptionist obviously made a error there it is annoying but hopefully she will know for future appts.x0

I know you probably do this already but just in case you don't ......................do you drink cranberry juice? Since my last water infection I have it every day ........though mine was only in my bladder and not my kidneys so it might not help. Thought I'd mention it anyway.
As for the receptionist do you think it might be an idea to ring ahead to tell them your daughter is bringing a sample in just to oil the works, so to speak?
Hope you feel better soon Sue.

Hi thanks everyone, I have a very small kidney on the left side due to so many infections over the years,I had a rib removed 15 years ago & the surgeon said he would look at the kidney while operating & may remove it at the same time but didn't  I went 10 years without it flaring up again which I was over the moon about But the last 4 years I have had infection after infection, sometimes every month just before Christmas last year I had 3 in 7 weeks, so my doctor referred my to a kidney specialist for investigation,my daughter went with me. he was very arrogant asking why I was sent to see him I tried to tell him my history, but he stopped me straight away saying he didn't want to know about the past, just the reason I was there that day. I told him about the constant infections,& that when doctors have sent samples off for testing were coming back normal, then he got snooty again saying no the haven't, Then said I'm not removing a kidney that's still working, with which i said I wouldn't want you to, I just want help with the infections, He carried on moaning on about not drinking enough, I just had enough then just agree with everything he said, with it probably all my own doing, jut to get out of there,in the end he decided to send me for an ultra sound scan on my kidneys, which they then found out that I could have a cancerous cyst on my ovary,No change with the kidney still little & hard to find, like 15 years ago. so I haven't seen him since, he's passed me over to gynaecology to monitor my ovary  PS Linda I used to drink lots of cranberry juice, but my doctor says it wouldn't make difference once it gets hold, I think it would be a good idea like you say, drinking it daily
Best wishes to you all Sue0 -
Well he was an arrogant twerp wasn't he! Some people don't deserve to keep the jobs they're in IMO  We can be made to feel worse on our way out of clinic than when we went in especially as we go in expecting help and empathy.
It might be worth you asking to be referred to someone else being as though it's some years down the line now and at least you might get some real help this time!
(I realised when I suggested the cranberry juice it might be a case of grandma and eggs  .......but I'm still glad I did just in case )
PS Is your cousin ok ......................now I know she really is your cousin?

Oh no Sue I thought things were beginning to look up for you, you've had more than enough now and I know that's what you think. Drs. receptionists seem to think they are in charge of everything when they are just a pain that makes life harder. Your Dr. seems to have been to school of useless Drs. hope you have better luck with gynae.
