In the gutter but looking at the stars

Today was my 33 birthday, it's been one hell of a year and last year's birthday was spent hiding out and being quiet. This one has been spent surrounded by the people I love and remembering how amazing life can be, I'm touched, deeply touched by the efforts people have made.
Mr LV is a big aussie and excellent surfer and I've never so much as stood on a board on dry land (I did once feel super cool carrying his board across an airport car park). I was gob smacked when, after disappearing for a while he arrived at the door with an unmistakable package. Once the ribbons were untied I uncovered a beautiful board (it has pink hibiscus flowers on). I've always wanted to give it a go but those fitter and more able than I have counselled against it. Mr LV has always believed I could do it. Now I know it's unlikely I'll be competing on the world surfing circuit any time soon and I may never master the art of standing up...but I'm going to give it a damned good try! I have booties and a winter wetsuit, I have the dream so, from my place that could be described as the health gutter, particularly on those days you all know, and probably with methotrexate and Celebrex as my joint my sponsors, I'm going to look up and aim at those stars...cos you never know til you try. If I don't make it I imagine there will be plenty of laughs, memories and half drownings along the way!

I'm very pleased you had a good birthday and, as for the present... Wow! That's something to aim for. Only an Aussie I don't know quite how stuff is for you, LV, but I do remember 'surfing' on an airbed in Cornwall back in the '60's when my joints weren't too bad. You'll never know until you try. Go for it!If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I bet you can do it - sheer bloody mindedness can do a lot you know! But you will have loads of fun on the way. How cool.

I'll catch a wave for us all. Sadly being based in sunny Manchester, it won't be a regular event unless my dream of moving to Cornwall comes true. Australia has too many snakes, spiders and ozone layer holes for my phobias and phenotype! I'm very excited about giving it a go and until then I'll keep practicing the jumpystandyup bit with my board on the rug! It's good exercise I guess thank you everybody!
Lots of love

Wel 7worlds I may have glossed over the fact I'm a bit scared out of my depth in the seab but I'll have a big long floaty board so hopefully that will help and I kind of like the feel the fear and do it anyway approach to some bits of life xxHey little fighter, things will get brighter0
