Hi
Sorry I have not been on here for a while but my password keeps logging out and is a pain!! I have been reading from time to time and hope you are all coping wellxx
I am keeping going with the physio and paindullers. I have some improvement in my THR side, but my back is still a literal pain!! The bad news is my other hip is going downhill. But I have not been to see anyone about it yet, (not seeing anyone is not acknowledging it yet!!)
I am off to France this week for a family holiday. We are driving there, which is not a good thing for me, as I will be sore and stiff but we are breaking the journey up lots.
If my hip is bad when I am away I will go to see the GP/or ring the consultant when I get back. I left it too long last time and feel this is why it has been a problematic recovery from the last THR.
Any tips for long journeys welcomed xx
NB

Hello again, NB. Good to hear from you. I’m sorry things have been a bit up and down but the holiday will be something to look forward to.

I think you’re doing the right thing in planning frequent stops. Other than that, the only thing that comes to mind is that some car seats are more ‘hip-friendly’ than others. You might try experimenting before you go with various cushions to see which, if any, help. When my hips have been bad I’ve had to be careful in seats that curve outwards at the edges. Tnhey can be OK but you have to sit absolutely central in them so that they’re not pushing your hip in the wrong place.

    Have a great holiday!
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi NB
Great to hear from you again....this forum can be a pain sometimes
As for long journeys.....the only long journeys I've done since being like this has been in the UK and its a matter of stops for coffee and a stretch and if its the other end of the UK we stop somewhere for the night and finish the journey the next day
    Have a great holiday anyway
    Love

    Hi NB,
Plenty of stops, and plenty of pain dullers, would be my inexperienced advice.
    Have a lovely holiday.
    All the best,
    Numpty

Hi NB, me again, a thought just occured to me. Are you aware that since July 2012, a law has been in force in France, making it compulsory to carry a breathalyser in all vehicles, or face an on the spot fine.
I'm sure you are aware of this, but thought I'd mention it just in case. When my OH and I went to France in July we didn't know about it  until I saw a notice on the ferry, coming home

    Hi again everyone,
thanks for all your good advice x
Numpty, yes we have got all the correct travel stuff, including 2x breathylsers.
We are stopping over twice in travelodge type places on the way down, to help me and to make sure Mr NB isn`t too tired.
I have a lumbar cushion, and work bought me a `back friend` seat insert as apart of access to work. It can be helpful, but to be honest it isn`t very comfy on long journeys as it isn`t cushioned at all. I have also bought plenty of heat packs (self adhesive ones) to put on if it gets bad.
I have just got a new prescription of pills from the doc so I think I am all set. Just going to try not to overdo it before I go!! My sticks are in the car all the time so I have always got them when I go out.
Now all we need is guaranteed french sunshine!! Please !!
