DLA

Morning!
After the disappointment at the hospital last week I did get some positive news with regards to my application for DLA. They are contacting my GP for further information.
I applied before and was turned down straight away. My boyfriend persuaded me to apply again and this time it took me a very long time. My PsA has been flaring since February and I can barely hold a pen right now. I included photos of my feet and hands, all my prescription lists showing how many different DMARD, NSAID and other treatments I have been tried on over the last few months.
I'm self-employed with a job I love but being ill and working mean I don't really have any leisure activities apart from keeping chickens on my allotment. I used to be able to dig and grew a lot of veg but now I get worn out after 10 minutes of feeble weeding. I included all of this in the form and the fact that I am in constant pain so fingers crossed (if I could, ha!) for a good result.
If I could go back in time I would have kept a better record of appointments, tests etc. at the time you think it will all get settled and you'll be able to carry on, albeit in pain. Three years on and the fatigue, forgetfulness and nausea from pills have taken their toll. So if you are at the start of this keep good records of all appointments, phone calls...everything! It's tempting to be 'brave' and struggle through regardless.
On my Pa's advice I wrote a timeline of my experiences with medications and the hospital from referral to date. Three pages of A4 to take with me tomorrow when I meet new consultant. It's a very early start and I wont finish work till at least 10 tonight.
Time to hobble off to work! Nx

Hi nickchick,
It's a right old minefield but there's no reason why you shouldn't get accepted at some level, even though you were turned down before.
Things are settling down at the DLA a bit now. At first when these draconian methods were first bought in they were for turning down everyone on principal.
I understand now though, they are being a bit more human about it all as a lot of mistakes were made.
Good luck and really hope you get a good result. Joy0
