Getting back to normal

I've had a very busy and eventful Summer, starting with a holiday in the Lake District with my daughter and grandchildren ( it rained and blew a gale all week  ) This was followed by another holiday in Dorset, when it only rained some of the time.

On my return, I was very busy helping my son to sort out his house prior to putting it on the market ( it sold within three weeks :!: ) Then I had the heartache of saying goodbye to my son as he left England to live in Canada. After that, I've been kept fully occupied in looking after his dog which he couldn't take with him.

Last week my grand-daughters came to stay, so we had a wonderful week together. Among lots of other exciting things, we went out to a theme park where I went on all the rides.
You can see me on the Pirate ship on this link. I'm the one with my arms up in the air and a big grin on my face  I love the Pirate ship :D

Now it's suddenly gone very quiet. The holidays are over, my grandchildren have gone home, my son is enjoying life in Canada, his house is sold, the dog has settled in well with us, and I'm just beginning to get back to normal. Today is the first quiet day I've had in ages, and I'm really enjoying it. :D Even the rain has stopped, and it's a beautiful sunny day.

Forgot to say that the peace and quiet won't last long because I'm off on trip to Salt's Mill at Saltaire near Bradford tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to seeing paintings by David Hockney.

I think many people would be feeling sorry for themselves now that all the hustling, bustling ones have left, Joan. Well done you for finding the positive side. I hope you have a ball at Salt's mill. I bought a copy of one last time I was there.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Wow Joan, you have had a busy summer! I hope you have a good trip tomorrow, I like some of Hockney's work : if you take a crutch with you, you could nick an original, roll it up and hide it in the stick. DD

Hi Joan - it's lovely to put a face to a name and you look as if you were really enjoying yourself. Good for you. (The only time I have been on a pirate ship I felt so ill I didn't expect to survive!  ).

It sounds as if you've had a fun-filled, but emotional Summer. One of my sons has lived abroad for five years now and I miss every day. But he's leading his life and he's happy. It's hard and I shall be thinking of you.

    Keep smiling .... Susie

    Thanks for your replies.

Mig- It's funny how we build up a picture in our minds of how people on here look. Anyway, I'm sure that I'm far younger and more glamorous than you ever could have imagined

SW- It's not my style to feel sorry for myself, even though I miss my son. I count my blessings that I've got such a lovely family and lots of interests of my own to keep me busy.

DD- Are you trying to get me nicked by the Police?
Mind you, it's quite a cunning plan as I'm a big fan of Hockney.

7worlds- I was having great fun and went on lots of rides, including two roller coasters and one of those things which take you up very high and then suddenly drop you down. The Pirate ship is always my favourite though.

Susiesoo- It has been an emotional Summer in many ways, but I'm happy for my son. Going to live in Canada was something he wanted to do, so I would never have tried to discourage him. Anyway, my next holiday will be in Vancouver. :D

Thanks for your replies, Julie and Tony.

I had a great day at Salt's Mill and thoroughly enjoyed all the Hockney paintings and prints. What a fascinating place Saltaire is! I would like to go again as there is so much to see.

Tony- Tommy is gradually accepting Venus, although they had a little disagreement in the garden today. Tommy still thinks he's king of the castle
