Arghhh!

Yesterday I could feel my left hip stiffening and woke at 3am to such pain, I crawled to the bathroom to find some pills and then struggled downstairs to find more...it's been such a long time since I had it in my hips that I had forgotten how bad it feels, quite took my mind of my feet, knees and hands for a while.

So, swearing silently and running a bath in the hope that I can ease it enough to get down to the allotment to feed the chooks and then get to my hospital appointment by 8.30...

Oh, the irony...I'm supposed to be going there to meet my new consultant to discuss the damage to my feet and hands, now I can add a hip too!

To think that I had been worrying about what shoes to wear and oversleeping :)

Note to self - keep pills by bed....doh!

Oh dear its horrible to wake up with pain and while everyone is sleeping you have to be quiet as a mouse, when in fact you want to tell not only your family but the whole street. :?
I hope the pills and the warm bath helped. :)

I expect you are now on your way to your appointment so I will jump in your pocket. Hope your appointment goes well and yes, I would also mention your hip

Good luck, I hope the appointment goes as you wish and he can come up with a plan of some sort - we like plans! DD

I hope the appt goes/went well nicchick. At least it all kicked off beforehand not after.

Thank you for all your good wishes!

It went as well as could be expected, my hip was so bad that he sent me off for an x-ray after examining me properly. The first time all my joints have been looked at since referral.

The anti-CCP test results were back too and it said 199 (I don't know what that means....) but I'm so cross that despite no markers ever showing I haven't had this test before.

He's suggested a while off methotrexate to see what is going on as well as an MRI and he's referring me to the pain clinic.

I also bought a stick on my way back to the Railway Station as I was hobbling so badly, a sparkly silver one! Me and the OH have just walked the dogs with it and he was faster than me for a change...:)

Right, so that's a result of some sort. I don't think I've ever had a CCCP test done (I've heard about it on here) but whatever it is I'm guessing that 199 is a tad on the high side. I'm glad you have a stick, I hope it's near the right height for you, can you adjust it? Ideally one's hand should be level or just above the hip and you should hold it in the opposite side to the affected one. It would seem that maybe the meth isn't doing too much for you at the moment but I hope things don't worsen too much without it. It takes a while to leave one's system. DD

If at all possible it is best for the height of a walking stick to be assessed by a physiotherapist - individual's limbs may be of different lengths.

Thanks for the update, nicchick. It sounds like a good appointment and I'm pleased for you as at least things seem to be happening. I tend to prefer to be at my worst for such appointments. No point in seeing them on a good day and then it all going pear-shaped the next.

    Hi Nic
I am glad your appointment went well, I know your hip pain well ,and there is nothing worse than it being in the night.
I do hope you get some relief very soon, hopefully the pain clinic will help, they certainly helped me.
    You take care x

    Thank you everyone...again!

It is kinda a result as in someone in the position to action these tests taking an active interest and I suppose I should show some gratitude for my hip being as bad as it is. I'm pretty smiley by nature and tend to giggle through things despite the pain. My mum has told me time and time again to try not to look so happy when I go in!

I did have a decent conversation with PALS yesterday too who spoke to both my surgery (getting me an appointment for Friday when apparently there were none) and the rheumatology department about the lack of communication between the two. I have also decided to make an official complaint to the hospital about the treatment by my last consultant and questioning why it has taken so long to be examined and tested.

The rheumatology nurse (not one I have ever seen) said that they aren't allowed to test for anti-ccp until antibodies are present in the blood and these weren't present till this July. This is absolute BS as every fortnight I look through my results with the Vampire while she takes my blood and there has been absolutely no change in the results since last December when my liver was a bit high.

Why do they make it so hard? Why do they also assume that we are incapable of reading medical papers or understanding this condition, it is OUR specalist subject after all!

*luckily* having a partner with RA means that he helped me adjust the height of the stick and helped me with it!
