Putting the silly in my sensible shoes

My best friend is a podiatrist which is a lucky thing. On friday night, I had a pedoMOT...and failed :o badly. He knows me well and has done for ages so he knows about my shoe fetish and has been patient when I presented him with some of my finer purchases of taxi-restaurant-taxi shoes, he even found some orthotics for a pair of ridiculous shoes (beautiful with grafitti on them) which I insisted on wearing to a wedding (it was a bad decision but everybody loved them). He has laughed at my version of sensible flats - big PVC blue bows on shiny red ballet flats with paw prints for sole grips, lined with velvet but not built for orthotics. Because of his ongoing patience I knew he really meant it when he told me I had to buy some SENSIBLE shoes and marked out the parameters of what made shoes sensible :cry::cry:
I went and bought a pair of trainers, I was like a sulky child as Mr LV reminded me about the parameters. As sensible shoes go, they could be worse but they lacked a bit of quirk and it irked me. My friendly podiatrist was made up with my choice which irked me more - they really are sensible. In a bid to cheer them up and add quirk I managed to find (an obscure internet search or two later) a pair of shoe laces which go from white to purple in the sunshine. It's a little thing but I have spent quite a lot of time standing in pools of sunlight in my front room today watching the transformation and smiling - I can now wear my sensible shoes with a bit of a sense of pride because I have added a silly element to them.
As a thank you, I bought Mr Podiatrist a pair of glow in the dark laces for his shoes. Who knows if he wants them!!
Seriously though, it might be a little and rather silly thing but it has made my changing needs a bit easier to swallow. Seems you can take the ridiculous out of LVs shoes but you can't take the ridiculous out of LV, not even if you are evil arthritis!!:lol::lol: (evil LV laughter giggles)

That's the spirit LV, it's always possible to add one's own little quirks to these things and well done you for finding a suitable one for you! I bought some Hotters recently, nicely sensible lace-up pump-type in lilac and approved by my orthotic chappie, but they came with two sets of laces, one cotton as per usual and one ribbon. Perfect. I like the sound of your two-tones and as for the glow-in-the-dark ones - cor! DD

Sounds great! Having shoes you like is a necessity, as far as I'm concerned.

:? Ah! SW looks wistfully down at her all-too-sensible surgical shoes with the boring black velcro fastening.

Well done, LV! Keep the flag flying.

    LV, this made me
    Thank you !
In your honour, today when I got dressed for work, knees playing up so that I am walking very slowly and stiffly, I thought 'to h@ll with wearing my sensible flats' and instead put on some lovely high heels that I haven't worn in ages and really look good. My rationale, inspired by you, was that my knees would feel rubbish whether I wore sensible shoes or not, so I might as well look good ! These things matter sometimes don't they ?!

Ahhhh Jo, you just gave me a huge grin! Thank you :D
Sticky, you bring back to the front of my head the little discussion I have that goes 'why don't all these helpful and sensible things look pretty and should I be starting the company that makes those pretty but sensible things?!'
I did amuse myself with the sunlight transformation and I can't wait for podiatry man's glow in the dark laces to arrive because I too think WOW. shoes you love are a necessity, just as much as sensible shoes are. I see DD was already in front of me on this one with ribbons and I now plan to quirk up other shoes with ribbons in the hope that'll make me more willing to opt for common sense (but not always or too much). LV xx

yes i like this post. i like quirks too otherwise i feel i am being controlled.

mine extends to the compression bandages i wear on my wrists. they are good little things but they stick to themselves and get grubby and not good to wash but i still wear them, looking like a ragged scraggy dog with a bandaged leg. upon them i still wear my dangly coin bracelet & silver glittery shambala bracelet.

it reminds me of some scene from a futuristic apocalypse film. (me? creating a warrior out of myself? is that too deep? lol)

I find this sooo funny LV :D

I am not exactly what you would call a 'sporty' type of person. Wearing sneakers or trainers always made me feel like I was trying to fool someone!

Until I found a pair that had pretty pink beads on them. I have worn these for 6 years almost every day while I have had problems with my ankle. Because I use them so much I put them in the washing machine once a month. Needless to say they are now so worn that the inside of the shoe is gone - only the hard plastic is left in the heel!
I now bought a new pair - very plain with some grey fabric that I plan to decorate with beads.
I also plan to pimp my crutches with sparkling stickers :P
