Had my back injections today

I was so nervous about them and it made me really think about those of you who have had joint injections and other serious operations. It must be so daunting.

Anyway, they hurt when the needle and meds went in. They upset my legs which was expected. I just hope it works now. In pain but optimistic :D Or trying to be, just dreading tomorrow when it will ache more.

They did L5/S1 and the sacroilliac joint, which was inflamed. Through to bone and the muscle :o Was treated excellently by all staff concerned, just hoping I won't need a repeat!!

How is everyone else?

Right, I've donned my stethoscope and surgical gloves and deem the following treatment: rest, rest and more rest, plus sensible repeats of the pain dullers. Things will be sore for a while (which is hardly surprising) and may well become more sore (ditto) but then, hopefully, things will begin to ease and you will start feeling the benefit. Good luck, suzygirl, I hope these do the trick - or at least part of it! DD

Well done for getting through it suzygirl! I really hope that it gives you some relief so that it was worth it. I echo the advice above, please try and rest for a couple of days. Also, don't be too disappointed if you don't feel much benefit for a couple of weeks. My leg pain went after only a day or so (wow! what a relief!) but it took nearly a fortnight for the back pain to go.

I hope it works and then you can take full advantage of some good days/weeks afterwards!

If DD's got her surgical gloves on better do as she says, suzygirl. She'll be whipping out her scalpel next.

Well done, you! That can't have been easy. As the others have said, rest up now and we'll all keep our fingers crossed for you.

Thanks all. Getting slightly tetchy with the pain now :? The doc said it had fused at the joint, does anyone have the same or know what it means? My back has been bad for 11 years now, so I suppose some change was inevitable.

    Hope tomorrow is better! :D

Oh Suzy I hope thinks improve for you very soon, these injections can take a while to do their magic. Can't help with the fusing, sorry.

    Hi suzygirl,

I think that he means that you have grown bone across the joint, which holds the joint rigid. I was told that if I had left my prolapsed disc alone it would have fused by itself naturally over 10-20 years.

I think that the arthritis causes bone spurs to grow to stabilise the worn joint so maybe eventually they meet and join (fuse) together? It might be good news? If the fusion becomes soild you will have no movement at that level in the end so, hopefully, no pain? My surgeon is suggesting that my worst case treatment might be fusion of my dodgy level. Maybe he is waiting to see if I fuse by myself? Who knows!!

Sorry that you are still in pain and that it is getting you down. I am keeping everything crossed that this workd for you and that you start feeling better soon.

Thanks Helen, that does make sense. The bottom of my back is rigid, it has no flexibility at all. I have to sit up in bed to turn over for example. It also affects my walking, especially when stiff or it has seized up. I still have pain, but a lot of it is nerve pain which is unavoidable unfortunately.

It is a problem I have ignored for a number of years, so I do wonder if having sought help earlier if it would have changed anything. However between work, house and toddlers etc you just don't seem to get time. So maybe the end result is the same?

Pain is worse today from the bruising, trauma etc it seems , I hope it gets better soon as I am a grumpy bear  Pain is just so lowering and I can't get comfy at all.

These things can be very tardy to take efffect but I hope you see some benefit soon. Continual pain is very lowering in so many ways, it saps your energy, morale, patience, it makes one tense and tetchy. Hang on in there girl, I hope that things improve soon. Keep resting and take care. DD

Sorry I'm so late into this one Suzy.

I really do hope the injections help and that the pain from the injections themselves eases soon.

    Thinking of you lots.

    Hi Suzy
Im sorry I missed this, I had the same injections a while ago, I am due to have a second lot, sadly they only took the edge off the pain for me, but some of the other people there were having there 3rd and 4th lots, and they swore by them...mind you I swore when I had them... :o so I really do hope you get lots of relief from them, the pain clinic told me that if the first ones dont work then the second ones usually do.....so I am hoping.
I do wish you well with them....and please let us know how you are doing xx
    Love

hi hope things are a little better today bet you are getting stuck as they have increased the amount of fluid in joints and that makes the joint swell a bit but do not worry that is only temporary so should ease soon

    Hi Suzy

Good to read that your pain is a little easier :D
Have you thought of doing your food shopping on line for a couple of weeks?
I now do mine on line but buy the veg and meat myself (like to choose my own) but all the other stuff that my delivery brings is top notch and always good dates on foods that have them. Just a thought

    Take care

    Hi Suzy,

Flower I am glad you had them and if they like mine they are slow bit help so gently you don;t really notice but than realize you are doing more with less pain.

Had mine week before last tut was greedy.... 8 in the lumber (4 bilaterails) and 12 in the neck... hey thank god for local aesthetic :lol::lol:

I really hope it helps and well at least my neck ones have let me sleep better and actually be able to use the keybored

This bone shift is bad at times eh?

Hows my furry purry friend doing and leaving her a sachet and you a ((((( ))))) all wrapped up with a bucket of hope and make it work. Cris xx

((( Cris))) so lovely to hear from you. You have been missed and in my thoughts. You are so brave having them in your neck :? I thought the back bad enough. Glad to hear that they helped you :D Take care, ((( hugs ))) and a nuzzle from your friend Izzy x x x

Julie, I have teenage boys who eat me out of house and home. Hubby helps me with shopping fortunately but even so it is too much. I tried online shopping but cost and quality ( I am a bit of a control freak  ) meant I switched back to self serve :D

Sticky, I hope you are doing ok. One day at a time is all most of us can do.

My neck and upper spine are playing up now. Not sure if damp or a flare as I have other 'warning' signs.
