ATM's

We went to Tesco this morning and my wife went to the ATM and it swallowed her card.
We asked at customer services who said it was nothing to do with them. The machines are the property of G4S.
They only visit one day a week and they don't return cards apparently. So she had to go to Nationwide and apply for another card, they said £150 had been taken out of her account this morning, she hadn't had a penny!!!
So she's filled up a form and Nationwide will make a claim but it could take months. Meanwhile she's got to wait for a new card.
With just under two weeks to our holiday we're hoping she gets it well before so she can get some money out.
In future I will advise everybody never to use an ATM at a supermarket, they'll just say it's nothing to do with them.

I think I'd be more concerned about the money going missing than Tesco's. You do hear of these scams in which false fronts are put over the existing ones. Also that the claim will take months. When Mr SW had his B*rcl*yc*rd stolen and money taken out it was reinstated instantly once he reported it. Tesco may not be responsible for the machine but, if the same thing happens to someone else, given that it has been reported to them, surely they have a responsibility to their customers to ensure, by whatever means available to them, that it doesn't happen again? If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Oddly enough the manager said three cards had been swallowed in the past week. But he added that because the machines were not their property they couldn't put any sign over them that they were faulty.0

It's always safer to get cashback at the checkout. It's very hard to tell if an ATM has been compromised. Your poor wife, what a palaver for you both. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Gosh Ron
I am shocked! Though l did know the machines don't belong to the supermarkets themsleves, but something similar happened to me at Sa*n*bry's about 14 years ago and they reimbursed me straight away (the bank did).
I hope the new one comes in good time for your hols or you will have to treat Mrs Rondetto

Yes Toni, until her new card comes I'll be subsidising her. I only hope it comes before we go away.0
