Surgery appointment update

Hi everyone, first of all I would like to thank you for being in my pocket
You were all very good and sat with baited breath as OH rolled us all in.
Well that wasn't what I was expecting.
Took sandwiches, flask, crisps, kindle and bought a paper for OH and was told "I am not going to operate but will see you in 6 months for a revision”
I was flabbergasted
He was pleased with the neck surgery I have had (except he said...” but I wouldn't have used that plate”) he said that it looks to be fusing nicely. He then said that the scans I have recently had shown no more deterioration near the peg, that it was the same as the scan that was done in late 2010.
So I am going to leave it and will see you in 6 month.
I mentioned also that I was now taking amytripline for headaches to which he advised that if it had controlled the pain to keep taking it.
So..Apart from being a little shocked and confused (plus I had planned to have this done and dusted before Xmas and a dog not long after) I am quite pleased.
(I wonder if he took note of my last consultation where I told him that the surgeon who actually did the c4/c5 operation would not do the peg just yet and would keep a close eye on me instead…who knows?) :?: :?
I know the problem is still there and will not go away, but, if it stays the same and I am monitored on a regular basis I am happy with that
I can now relax and enjoy my husband’s 50th birthday in October without wondering is a letter going to drop on the mat or is the phone going to ring.
Mermaid, it is lovely to hear from you and thank you for dropping in.
It is reassuring for me to know that you have had C1/C2 fused and that it has been successful. I am really nervous of that operation.
I will be thinking of you on the 1st and I wish you a speedy recovery.
Thank you ALL once again from the bottom of my heart
for your support.

Right, that was a turn up for the books wasn't it? On the whole I think it's good, things haven't deteriorated (probably due to the extra care you've been taking) and that is something positive on which to focus. Keep doing so over the next few months to keep the status quo on that - and get yourself a greyhound as they like lots of sleep. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Julie
Well that sounds to me like he DID heed the words of the 'other' man.
Overall I would say and excellent appointment as you are now free to enjoy your life and things imminent such as hubby's birthday, Christmas and maybe getting that dog
The good thing is you are going to be moniored and therefore able to be 'seen' of things start to worry you - so all in all good result.
Love and hugs

Hi Julie
They do like to keep us on our toes (metaphorically anyway) dont they?!!
But it is very good news that there isn't further deterioration since 2010.
Also that they are keeping a close eye on you, that's all we want really isnt it.
Bet you are whacked out both physically and emotionally though after today's appointment, so enjoy the snacks, paper and rest.
I am finding my newly acquired Kindle an absolute godsend now as normal books are just too unwieldy and I can't manage a cuppa at the same time. Think I might download some audiobooks for the neck op :?
Wishing you and hubby happy celebrations for his birthday in October.
These times are very special and I treasure every family occasion even more these days.
Thanks for your good wishes, that is very kind of you.
Take good care,
Hugs from Lizxx0 -
I think it sounds like a good appointment too, Julie.
My ops have all been very successful but no-op is always a better option.
Your man sounds as if he knows what he's doing (in this case not doing and is monitoring you well soooooo you can now plan your lovely husband's birthday bash.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

YES you are all quite right, it was a very good appointment wasn't it
and to think I had seen only one black bird on the way to the appointment and was frantically looking for the 2nd ,as one is for sorrow, I shall never be superstitious again
(although mum still said I should have saluted it  )
I have now calmed down and as you all say I can now get on with enjoying the lead up to Richards birthday and then christmas and maybe a dog
Oh I just have a big smile on my face now
